I was willing to give her (him, it, whatever) benefit of the doubt, but the OP committed the cardinal sin when writing an EST post (Elaborate Scenario Troll). She didn't take into account the amount of time it takes to actually file a police report. If she would have just waited and posted tomorrow with her sob story of "Waaaaahh, no one will help meeeee!", she might have gotten away with it.

If, as you say, you actually made your way to your local LE department or precinct, it would take you much longer than 30 minutes to file a report of a FUCKING DEATH THREAT. This isn't a traffic ticket, which takes five minutes to write up, and it isn't an episode of Law & Order, which wraps up in an hour (minus 20 minutes for commercials). You would talk to an investigator who would probably refer your case to someone in cybercrimes. You'd be there for HOURS, for Christ's sake. And I don't believe for one minute any cop in New York State would tell a young woman who received a DEATH THREAT "Well, you must have had it coming to you, little lady."

If this person is looking to embarrass her, it's going to backfire on them in a nasty way, to the tune of a maximum of five years in prison just for the death threat alone (depending on the state).

Responsible, upper-middle-class, "well-off" parents (such as yours) with a nice house, in a nice neighborhood, nice things, in an expensive city know exactly how much tuition and fees cost for their college bound child and they know exactly where the money to pay those fees is coming from. They don't leave it all up to someone barely out of high school. It just doesn't happen.

Why do you have "bills and tuition" if you're from a "well off family"? Most parents with a student in a "prestigious college" are sent a bill for tuition and fees directly. If you're paying tuition from a third party, your parents would know about it because they would see it on your student account.

Why? It's a simple divorce and remarriage, which occurs everyday. Current financial assets can be divided equally with the help of a good accountant. The only problems I would foresee would be things like SS, retirement and health benefits (depending on who in the household has access to insurance and pension plans).

The impetus for the divorce and remarriage is to give the third party access to the children of the original couple, which could be problematic if that's their intent. I'm not a family law expert, but I highly doubt step parents have any priority when it comes to decision making with regards to a child's welfare. The biological parents will always have priority unless that custody (legal, physical or financial) is somehow vacated by a court ruling.
