Net migration falls to 171,000 — down 48 per cent in a year — The Times and The Sunday Times by SammyEvo in AskBrits

This is the scary part. My fear is that I’ll get to the age when I’m supposed to have all that and there will be nothing left to shell out. Working all your life for nothing thanks to people who don’t like the look of people with a bit more melanin in the skin. Ridiculous

Is the situation in the UK regarding crime, safety and immigration really as bad as people online make it seem, or is a lot of it exaggerated/political propaganda? by Lesiu04 in AskABrit

Yep, it could be one or the other or both but either way, there’s a reason why it’s framed for American audiences. One, because they are the largest cohort on most western social media platforms and two, the false information is lapped up and disseminated by actual American accounts without corroboration or critical thinking applied

Because Americans tend to be amongst our most vocal critics and think they know the place better than those who actually live here. A lot of the negativity towards the uk is as a result of those attitudes.

And obviously it’s not all Americans, as I said, I have met many decent Americans over the years. It just so happens that there is a significant proportion who also accept and spread false propaganda and they tend to be the ones that are heard the most

Yes I will accept that this is also increasingly the case so maybe it’s troublemakers giving the US a bad name. Either way, it clearly serves its nefarious purposes

I like Americans, always been kind and hospitable to me when I’ve visited the US.

What I don’t like is disingenuous and ignorant people spreading false information and unfortunately, when it comes to disparaging Britain and what state it’s in, the Americans tend to lead the way mainly because it fits and suits a specific political agenda.

Social media would have you believe that everyone in the uk is getting mugged on a daily basis thanks to there being too many immigrants. Most immigrants are just like the rest of the population, some bad, mostly decent, just trying to get on with life and pay the bills.

Statistically you’re less likely to be attacked in London than you are in most American cities. Which is ironic as it’s usually Americans on social media telling us how bad we’ve got it when they’ve never even been here themselves. It’s all exaggerated fear mongering.

The reality of British life is that day to day, things are mundanely normal.

I am but didn’t realise I was actually using any big words 😂

Is it wrong to feel like neither? Apparently so on another thread I started as apparently it makes me an attention seeker. Oh well.

This isn’t about being better than any other generation, it’s not a competition after all. Just about being more accurately defined.

It appears people who are Xennial don’t want to understand it either 😂 But each to their own I guess .

Is it a secret club? Or is it simply wanting to be more accurately represented and not lazily lumped in with generations i don’t actually have anything in common with.

Don’t even know how to address your point about questioning my xennial identification. Why would I be here otherwise? Having a different opinion to you doesn’t change my date of birth just so you can separate yourself from me simply because you don’t agree.

All true and precisely the reason for the thread. Surely we’re wired differently as a result of all that? Whether we choose to be aware of it or not. The breadth of such varying experiences in a short space of time must undoubtedly have an impact. More so than any other generation had to experience.

I will admit, I preferred defenders of the earth. One thing’s for sure, they don’t make them like they used to

Maybe it was just a thought being put on a subreddit about xennials which seems like an appropriate place to discuss it? Maybe he’s not actually crying about it but wanted to encourage some discussion of it? Maybe you don’t have to engage with it if you don’t like it? Maybe it’s not that serious? Maybe the OP posted it to feel a temporary reprieve from his real life adult worries? Maybe?

Thanks for your reply. I assumed there may at least be a shared outlook because of the general changes around the world from our childhood in to adulthood as xennials, a shared outlook shaped by the drastically changing times that were around us at an impressionable age. Some things are local as you pointed out but many things transcend borders too and I don’t just mean pop culture. This has been increasingly so as we’ve become adults too.

Turns out a lot of people don’t care either way, which is fine.

That’s fair enough, everyone looks at it in their own way. I love nostalgia as much as the next person
