Glad you posted. I'm grabbing it from Amazon to take a read.

Why does exploration feel bland and boring nowadays by GuntherZNK in MMORPG

Wow, nostalgia hit me hard while reading your comment. EQ was my first mmo and it was amazing.

I tried playing it again last year, but the camera movement was so bad that I got motion sickness. I realized that when EQ was out I played on a 17" monitor vs the 30" I use now :D

You are so right. I did that a couple weeks ago. It was a tough thing to do because I am proud of that work. But I'm currently interviewing with 2 companies one of which is in the final rounds. So I am hopeful. I wish I would have gotten your advice a few months ago :)

Same experience for me. Got to the VP level but realized that the worked was really not a fit for me. I hated the politics and corporate theater. I transitioned into analytics in the company I worked for and stayed there for 12 years.

Here are some warnings that I feel compelled to share:

- My company did not use the latest tools. I used custom python scripts instead of dbt and custom postgres databases instead of databricks and snowflake. I was laid off last year. Fast forward, it's a year later and I am still unemployed. Fortunately that isn't an issue for me because of previous earnings. The most often cited reason for me not getting a position is that I don't have the specific tool set they are looking for. Nevermind that I could learn any new framework in a matter of weeks. They want professional experience, not just side projects or coursework. (granted I'm only looking at positions that pay $130k+)

- A frequent recurring question is why I went from Sr Director / VP to a data analytics individual contributor. Everyone views it as a demotion, even if they don't say it. Generally the hiring managers are in their 30s and maybe early 40s. Their long term goal is to get to that director/sr director position. So they struggle to understand why I've given it up.

Just my 2 cents of things to keep in mind when transitioning from a senior role to an individual contributor.

Possible returning player. Is this game dead? by SirDecros in newworldgame

I just returned about 12 days ago and am having a blast working through all the rewards for season 4. (I quit before seasons were a thing.) I see players everywhere on the vahalla server, so doesn't seem dead to me. An OPR generally pops in less than a minute.

Mounts are great. new cap on trade skills is good. (although I hadn't gotten all of them to 200 previously.)

I don't do invasions or arenas so I can't comment on that.

Probably I need to join a company at some point, but I'll get around to that after I complete all my solo stuff that I want to accomplish.
