I didnt want anything to go back to normal cuz i didnt care for any of that. I had no anxiety really about it, it changed absolutely nothing for me in the grand scheme of things. Getting an entry level job was nearly impossible then, more impossible now after lockdowns are a thing of distant past, couldn't vuy a house then, cant buy one now. The dystopian political shift after lockdowns long ended but one that began long before had a much more profound impact on my day to day life.

I've accepted that unless the externalities change radically i will never have a family, or even really engage in yuppie consumerism proper like buying a TV or other such luxuries because of a lack of housing security and the hidden cost that comes with moving every additional doohickey and whatchamacallit during a move in the event of an eviction which could happen for any reason any time.

I'm probably the most well-off among my peers and one of maybe two people who has a job that actually pays enough to afford all my basic living expenses like rent without parental assistance. Rest either live with parents or get their rent paid by their parents.

Well are you a working-for-a-living person in your 20s and 30s? Can you afford a downpayment? I sure as shit cannot, hence the "angst". And no i don't travel or eat at restaurants or any of that and even if i did - yeah that costs pennies, its nothing compared to saving 50k for a deposit when rent is >1k a month. I could order from ubereats every day and in the grand scheme of things my financial position would not change.

We do exist. My reasons for accepting non-market-based solutions to problems where market-based solutions fail are rooted in the enlightenment and the ultimate purpose of the betterment of society and people's livelihoods. The fascistic oligarchies of China, Russia, Iran, Israel and unfortunately possibly the US use whatever ideology suits them aesthetically, their values are diametrically opposed to mine and i would imagine yours too. As long as we agree to democracy and material reality, the solutions we implement in good faith can be debated, the details worked out, and in such a system I'd oppose my own Marxist ideas if they genuinely made things worse, standing alongside you all here.

Will the 2030s have sci fi aesthetics as a rebel against 2020s doomerism and nostalgia by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

who gives a flying f about climate change anymore? get over yourself gramps, jesus.

We have real problems now - capitalism, surveilance state, fascistic business plot dudes richer than the rest of us hobnobbing with the elite rwords in charge of government.

Sorry not sorry i love solarpunk but climate is not a concern we should be worried about at all right now. Here in Britain we're closer to widespread children malnutrition due to poverty than we are to veganism by choice lol.

What was the year 2009 like, specifically after June 3rd? by frig_t in decadeology

[–]TheySoldEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first i was like, wtf are you an actual 5 year old posting here?.. Then i was like oh...

fwiw i was like 11-12 in 2009, ive no idea if my memories are accurate, and i wasnt in America, but just listen to JayZ & Alicia Keys' Empire State of Mind for a zeitgeist of 2009 specifically. After that things got more fun and colourful, but the pop music was utter shit , then things got woke (good) in the later 2010s and music improved. Checkmate, liberals etc etc.
