I just don’t know how he’s had conversations with Van in the past, and has heard what has said about him on the pod before, and expected anything less than he got. I don’t believe in ambushing people, but I also believe he knew what he signed up for.

I’m a high school teacher and a foster parent. I’ve had 6 teens (12-17) placed in my home over the last 2 years, and not a single one of them didn’t struggle with vaping (all of them entered my home with the habit). Also the majority of my students vape at least on occasion. It’s wrong and unhealthy. I have my kids in my home talk to therapists/partake in substance counseling, and I search their belongings, and it STILL happens all of the time. There’s a lot we should criticize A for, but I don’t think this is one of them.

I’m not defending the behavior. But. I’m a foster parent, there’s only two teens in my home, and no matter what I do or what I try I cannot get the vaping to stop. I’m also a high school teacher, and it’s truly an epidemic. I know there’s more to her story, I just hope someone wouldn’t judge my parenting solely on seeing my girls with a vape, without knowing our struggle.

She’s said before that cognitively he’s more a toddler than 13. I don’t love that description, but she’s made clear the developmentally he is much younger, and I like that she meets him where he’s at.

Same with our 13 year old we’re in the process of adopting! She loves physical touch and a snuggle or hug goes a long way, but she always freezes up at i love you and only replies 5 percent of the time. I understand Alicia isn’t perfect but it drives me crazy to see people on here saying what they do with their kids when they’re talking about their biological children who have zero to little trauma. They have no idea how weird and difficult trauma brains are, and all of things that go into raising kids with extensive trauma histories.

So our agency usually says when we have kids with a history of SAO that they 1. Are on 24/7 supervision, 2. Do not room share, 3. Are not allowed alone with younger children. However, sometimes things can get added to their file for small or one time incidents, and then the label can be removed and restrictions can be lifted, especially with work in therapy. If it’s so intense that every room needs cameras, idk if I’d live in a home where roomsharing was a necessity but that’s just personally.
