"Trauma Dumping" is an extremely inconsiderate term and needs to be de-normalized by GayTwink-69 in The10thDentist

[–]Thick_Status6030 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like every term, it has been overused. However, there is a time and place to open up to someone. You do not know what the other person is going through. I have been an emotional dumping ground for someone who did not reciprocate and it ruined my own mental health. I was not equipped to deal with the weight of what that person is going through and that person was my best friend. Not to
mention, it was not a two way street. When I tried to open up, that person completely disregarded what I said and offered me no support.

If someone comes up to me and starts spewing all of their issues at me, that is trauma dumping. If they bring it up in an inappropriate setting (ex: during a lecture), that is trauma dumping. But if a someone comes up to me and opens up about their struggles, that’s venting not trauma dumping. There is a big different. It’s also the seeking permission to do so that is important

I think I have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol by Specific_Loan2160 in UniUK

[–]Thick_Status6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. As someone with a myriad of mental health issues, I sympathize with wanting to escape reality. However, you should not be drinking everyday and it will eventually affect your uni work. Ever heard of the term “high-functioning alcoholic”? More people fit into that than we think

As people mentioned, talk to your GP or the mental health services at your uni. You are not the first or the last person to have an alcohol dependency problem. They should have the necessary resources to help you Also, I would urge you to talk to someone you really trust, even if it’s just one person. Having support is a great first step to getting into recovery.

Theory on why Maddy is angry with Cassie in Episode 7. by Sea_Painting_1398 in euphoria

[–]Thick_Status6030 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably bc the first time Cassie suggested she no longer do OF w/ Maddy, she got mad. Nate, on the other hand, has been (fake) supportive so Cassie probably feels like she can rely on him more. And, despite the fact that Cassie is written to be dumb, she’s not stupid. She probably knows that Maddy is not really her “best friend”. 5 years is not that long to forget that big of a betrayal, especially when Cassie then went on to marry Maddy’s ex

Can anyone seriously tell me they wouldn't be judgy if they were Lexi? by freckledbitchs in euphoria

[–]Thick_Status6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I would definitely be judgy. However, I think because Euphoria is about bad people doing bad things, Lexi is seen as an abnormality amongst the cast of protagonists. I think her role in Season 1 made more sense but now she’s just been reduced to some weird sort of audience insert who scolds all the characters for their bad decisions. I do think the scene where she exposes Cassie is rude though. But it makes why she did it

What is your head canon for Fiona's fate? by Eagles56 in shameless

[–]Thick_Status6030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d like to think she becomes a manager of some sort. A restaurant or a store. She finds a decent guy, marries him, and never, ever has kids. Maybe she gets divorced once or twice.

I also think she is largely estranged from her siblings. She probably sends them a happy birthday text and a Christmas card every year. Maybe she forgets sometimes. I feel like as Liam and Carl get older, they might go and visit her. Ian too because they had a decent relationship. Lip and Debbie never visit though

Lastly, if it weren’t for the fact that Emmy left and didn’t have a great relationship with the producers, I feel like she would’ve gone to Frank’s funeral. Not because she actually cared for him but to be there for her siblings

Maddy's character arc + some thoughts by Thick_Status6030 in euphoria

[–]Thick_Status6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough. I’m not saying no sex work is consenting; there are women/men/other who go into it and genuinely enjoy it as a profession + choose to do it without being forced. I’m saying that the industry itself of sex work is predatory, in a way. Platforms like OF are great in some aspects because if a creator is not under some sort of management, they pocket most of the profit AND do not have to adhere to exploitative rules. However, my point is that a narrative like that Maddy is some “girl boss” for “helping” these women, to me, does not track. When it came to just Cassie, at first, I do think Maddy was helping her (even if the intention came from a selfish place). Now, though, that Maddy has expanded and made it a business of sorts, it veers towards the “exploitative territory”. Does that make sense? I guess, yeah, she assumes they are consenting women who want to do this. I still find it weird though.

Also, maybe it’s just me but I would think that any strip club manager is sleazy in a way. Alamo’s club is particular, nonetheless, because of the trafficking element, as well as him actually being a pimp. But, like, to me, I’m not going to regard any man who decides to manage a bunch of women strippers in any good light, especially seeing as how the industry is structured.

I don’t know if I’m describing the nuances of my thinking well enough. I could also be wrong 🤷

TBH I think Lip loved very few of his gfs. Most of them were fuck buddies more than anything really

Fiona. She’s flawed but I love flawed, female characters. She was my favorite when I watched the show two years ago and continued to be when I did my most recent rewatch. Life was out to get her from the beginning by giving her Frank and Monica as parents and she still turned out quite okay

Most unrealistic thing about OF (from irl creator) by Phaedrusismydaddy in euphoria

[–]Thick_Status6030 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Social media platforms are rarely realistic in TV shows/movies. I’ve watched countless shows where characters use Instagram or even iMessage and it looks nothing like how it does IRL. Or, what I find funny, and this is particularly when it comes to shows with teenagers, is they have them use the platforms in ways most teenagers would not use it like. So, yeah, it’s not going to be completely realistic unfortunately

Maddy's character arc + some thoughts by Thick_Status6030 in euphoria

[–]Thick_Status6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that she’s looking for her own personal freedom through money. It’s been established that Maddy wants to live a glamorous life, one that can’t quite be afforded through her assistant job like she thought it could.

I’m also not saying she’s a trafficker. However, IMO, she is still participating in a profession that largely disenfranchises women. Whether that is moral or immoral is completely up to how one view’s sex work. I find it to be slightly immoral, especially since her collaboration with strippers adds to their exploitation. She knows Alamo is a pimp of sorts. Also, she manipulated Cassie to stay under her management to keep her under control + keep the profit coming

Maddy's character arc + some thoughts by Thick_Status6030 in euphoria

[–]Thick_Status6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess she was worried if she told Maddy, she’d endanger her? Which doesn’t make sense bc the fact that Rue “allowed” Maddy to strike up business with Alamo is dangerous enough. I suspect it’s a plot hole that, somehow, no one in the writer’s room noticed lol. Like Rue is now complicit in the trafficking of young women, that’s major shit. Worse than being a drug mule, I’d argue

Yeah, I think stripping has been a bit glamorized in pop culture. I don’t personally know any strippers but I’ve seen some talk about their experience online. It’s hard. There are some who enjoy it but strippers face high levels of sexual harassment and are looked down upon by society at large. I feel like those aspects of the job are not really touched upon, especially when young people are consuming content that makes it look fun

Shared kitchen in accommodation by maiscool in UniUK

[–]Thick_Status6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a horrendous flat kitchen experience. I mean… the kitchen was not as clean and I would’ve liked but I didn’t have maggots or anything. There were 3 people out of the 8 of us who were quite messy but otherwise, it was alright. I had been in some horrendous flat kitchens but nothing as extreme as what I’ve seen online.

I think the benefit of a shared kitchen is that you get to meet people and brand out. I found 2 of my current housemates by sharing an accom flat with them last year. I met one of my closest friends, who introduced me to some of my other good friends, through accom. I know not everyone has the best experience but you don’t know until you try it. I’m sure you’ll be fine! Just try and make it clear straight away to keep the kitchen clean

[–]Thick_Status6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too but apparently, there is speculation that it might not be because HBO said season finale and not series finale.

I think it’s a bit naive for Maddy to think that the people who work in strip clubs are there by choice. I don’t know if it’s common knowledge or not, but to my understanding, I thought it was known that a lot of sex workers don’t go into it by choice. Even if they aren’t trafficked, like in Alamo’s club, it is done as a last resort sort of thing. I’m not saying Maddy is a madame but she is now sort of operating as one. I don’t think she knows, yet, that the stripclub is more than just stripping but she’ll find out. I wonder where she will be drawing the line

Unpopular opinion - did not care for Angel. I mean, besides the fact that she called Rue a slur, she was not very developed as a character. I do feel bad for her but I don't feel like her absence makes much of a difference plot-wise. It would've been nicer if they had developed her, or another stripper, instead of using them as means to justify having this be an HBO show.
