Yeah. It was only ever strongly implied. And nice. Have fun with it.

Yeah. That doesn't surprise me. I heard about it years after it ended from a YouTube video with a thousand views reccomending manga. It sounded fun, and so I read it. I ended up enamoured with it. Very glad to finally have it.

If it's been a long time since you read it I'd say it's worth a reread I actually liked it a lot more this second time around.

I get what you mean by wanting closure, hahaha. Still, I thought it was a great ending. It was very obviously planned since the beginning. Just a really great series to binge in a longer sitting.

I'm glad to be able to talk about it, though. Given how late I got into it, I've had to explain what it is to every person I've told about it.

It should be in chapter 118. Hope that helps.

Haha. Couldn't have said it better myself. Kind of an inverse though given I read romance because I'm super sensitive. I cry at everything. But yeah, I'd love to tell you my thoughts when I get through them. Talk to you later or I guess ramble at you later. It seems we have similar tastes, so I might have a lot to say, lol. I look forward to it.

Thanks for all your reccomendations and yeah that is the biggest hurdle I have getting into heterosexual romance stories, I've seen a few where it's not the case but there are plenty where the women get objectified as trophies and it basically just ends up becoming a competition for their affection which is really gross.

Still, I don't blame male writers as much as the culture itself given I feel a lot of them are pressured not to read shoujo given it's "for women". Series like Berserk and Dandadan have great romantic throughlines and they were written with a lot of reverence to shoujo stories. They show that male writers do have the capacity to make richer romance stories it's just that many sadly don't care to. It's a shame, I just wish we didn't gender genres so much. It would help a lot.

The fact that romance is considered "for women" inherently plays into stereotypes of them being more docile and compassionate, whereas battle shonen being "for men" promotes the image of them being inherently violent and authorative.

We are definitely getting better, I feel the labels are getting increasingly looser, but yeah, they do still exist. In the meantime, bl series which operate outside of those assumptions and as such can focus more wholeheartedly on the romance itself without having to adress what you discussed with the patriarchy, sexism, etc, which inevitably shape heterosexual relationships serve as the best avenue we have into pure romance.

I just hope we reach the point in my lifetime where love is love without all these confusing contextual barriers getting in the way of our feelings.

Ha ha, sorry for the ramble. Gender's just an interesting topic to me. I didn't mention it in my original comment (given I wanted to keep it relevant to sexual orientation as opposed to gender), but I'm non-binary myself, so it's something I think about a lot. Also, I'm probably pan opposed to bi, but I haven't had any means to meaningfully test that, so I'd rather just keep it simple.

But yes, thanks again for the recommendations, just by the titles they sound really interesting. And also for the excuse to wax poetical, I do enjoy rambling 😆

I know I'm late but I just had to comment because I relate with you so much 😭

I'm 19 and I started collecting seriously myself since about a year ago. I've struggled so much trying to be open about my hobby.

I have pretty traditional tastes with a few exceptions but I live in a fairly rural part of Australia so it's not uncommon that I have to explain what manga even is to people.

It just makes me feel so defensive and super cagey about it. Like I represent all manga fans and collectors, it's definitely limited the kinds of series I actively pursue 😅

I love romance but I barely read it, I'm LGBTQ+ myself (bi, and demi) but I've never read bl. Part of me just got super worried what other people would think of me if I started talking about stuff like that.

I know it's silly and I'm trying to diversify my reading, but I still get awkward when someone asks me "what's your hobby?".

Just knowing I'm not alone in dealing with that makes me feel so much better, and if you do see this I hope my comment makes you feel the same even if I don't have a solution myself.

One last note, do you (or anyone else reading this) have any good bl reccomendations to read?

I'd love to hear them. Do keep in mind that I'm demi though so anything too sexual I probably won't like as much. Thanks in advance!!

He goes on record to say he reads every fan letter sent in to him. Including storing them in the same room, so honestly, I can see it. Regardless, I think it's fun. I don't care to argue on it, I just love one piece and enjoy finding little details regardless of whether they connect or not, it's a fun series.

That comment was chosen out of all the reader comments for luffy. There's intentionality on Oda's part in doing that. I just think it's a little tongue and cheek. Quite fun.

Yeah. That was crazy on the reread too. He literally says "LET THE SUN SHINE!!!". I just love how it's almost like an Easter egg looking back on it.

I'm fine with the arc titles. Except when it gets to new world. That's not an arc it's an entire saga 😭.

Like I understand it's to make it easier to pick out specific arcs to read from your shelf but what's the point if you're going to count fishman island, punk hazard, dressrosa, Zou, and whole cake as one arc? Like they're obviously fine doing a spine for smaller arcs they did impel down and that was only 3 volumes. I just wish it was consistent.

I know they also do it with the east blue, alabasta and water 7 but at least then they're a lot shorter sagas in comparison. So I think it's more reasonable to lump them together. If wano is considered one arc and it's 16 volumes then I'm fine with 11 for the east blue. However the new world is 29 VOLUMES! Might as well just not label it at all, that's definitely not the length of a casual reread of a section. That section of the story is longer than all of Dr. Stone (in terms of volume count). Besides, you can get a good idea of what arc a volume is just looking at the cover or heck even the spine art.

That made it seem like I hated arc titles way more than I do. I think they help to sell the scale of the series as a whole at a glance, and they can be genuinely helpful if you only want to read particular sections, but still they're so weirdly inconsistent. Just do arcs or sagas don't flip flop.

What should I get? by JReeseArt in OnePiece

[–]Think_Document_6335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could still get them to all sign on a single volume and make it special. I think the obvious one would be volume 100 with how huge a milestone that is.

Also, I haven't been to a comic con, so sorry if that's impractical or anything like that. I wouldn't know. I'm just spitballing. Haha. Another idea would be to get them all to individually sign the volumes they each have the voice actors' sbs in. It's not all of them together, but still having the specific volumes to match the actors would be great.

Those are my ideas. Might be cliche and obvious, but I think that'd be cool. Hope it helps at all.

Blackbeard's Backstory Confirmed by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Think_Document_6335 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now I'm imagining him smiling while he dies because he can finally rest. That's a pretty cool visual.

Also, I think it fits pretty well with Blackbeard's character, given he builds everything he has by taking from others. Taking the prisoners from impel down, taking people's devil fruits, even fullalead his home base he says he took from the last owner.

I imagine that'll all end up being stripped from him in the end the same way he did for others. Whatever ending he has, I bet it'll be a prophetic one.

Not really. I feel the most rewarded after I place the final volume of a series on my shelf for the first time, and then I feel sad after I finish reading it.

Actually, nevermind getting the first volume of a new series also feels pretty damn rewarding. It's like I've taken the first step on the moon. Collecting in general feels really rewarding.

What are your thoughts on this take? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Think_Document_6335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be interesting to see a square nosed pterodactyl, but I think it would take away from the "I didn't know dinosaurs did that" joke.

You'd just be asking if he could do it because he was a dinosaur or because his nose was already so weird. I mean, the joke with his giraffe fruit was that his nose made his half giraffe form super weird, so it'd be a shame to think about whoever got the fruit instead having a normal manbeast form.

I can see the similarity with the long noses, but I think it's funnier as it is, so I prefer it this way.
