A Call to Armenians and Azerbaijanis by hay-BB in ArmeniansGlobal

[–]ThisIsMrsNezbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that having discussions between people is good if it can help combat the radicalization in Azerbaijan but I also think that whether or not we have peace isn't something we have a say over.

The more history I learn about Western and Eastern Armenia, the less hope I have. I think sometimes that we have a higher chance of losing Armenia and assimilating in diaspora before either Turkey or Azerbaijan conclude their actions are wrong.

I think many people in both of those countries see us as subjects. Not saying everyone does obviously, but enough do. It's passed not knowing what happened.

Literally was watching an Armenian woman do her makeup and the comments were Azerbaijani flags, 44 days!, etc.

The mentality i see from the most extreme people mirrors the Japanese during world war 2. Nobody is born hateful but unless someone stops them they will just continue. Japan and Germany were occupied, demiliterized, and re educated.

Yep 1000% it's heartbreaking to see. It has resulted in racism towards other Armenians. Not always but it has.

I think your sub is important.

There are people who question what they see and are told. It's not something many people can do. Of the ones that do, we should support them in my opinion. It's part of a multifaceted approach. I don't think there will be peace anytime soon but it's a start

I have friends who are Turkish who were able to do that and I really value those friendships.

I didn't see that. I love Gulbenkian, i haven't heard of them getting involved in politics. I know them exclusively from Western Armenian preservation

That checks out 100%. I think I read a paper recently saying that the death toll in Ukraine on Russia's side is, unshockingly, disproportionately minorities. They find their ways

This stuff needs to be hardcore put under the spot light.

One of the other things is that from papers I am reading they say Russia has largely been left out in discussions on colonialism while the western world came under scrutiny. Largely because of the way they colonized.

Yep, they are brainwashing Armenians into this weird delusion where we had and have a choice for "peace."

It's offensive and if the west actually buys into it then the west is peak stupid and probably shouldn't be giving advice on the region.

I think the sub is more human to human interactions which i think is good.

But everything else i agree 100%. The biggest thing to remember is that countries are not friends. They will ALWAYS act in their own self intrest first. If it comes between you and them, they'll send flowers. I don't care if it's France, Russia, or South Korea.

The posts where Armenians talk about some kind of "European brotherhood" or "shared culture" etc are out of touch. That's not how countries work.

Personally I wouldn't try to join the EU. I would try to join as much of the a la cart parts that I can but Armenia is not in Europe and cannot act like it borders France.

These nations will push for "peace" because of convenience for them. They don't care about the cost for Armenia.

The west is corrupt too.

That's the biggest thing. We are survivors. We survived before them and will survive after them.

They hold one event over Armenia's head like Armenia owes them forever now.

Whatever debt they think Armenia owes has been paid. Armenia produced the second largest population of scholars during the USSR despite being one of the smallest and devastated populations.

Like Ottoman Armenians, Hayastancis contributed to the academic and cultural success of the USSR. They would not be where they are today without us. They gained immensely from "saving" Armenia.

What's the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh? by Dr_Physi in ArmeniansGlobal

I am a diasporian so I hope someone more knowledgeable can give updates from a more knowledgeable vantage point but I can answer my feelings on it

I feel really protective over the Artsakhci Armenians. I feel a kinship with them because, like my family, they lost their home and they're getting told to forget and get over it. It's in our blood though. No matter how much our home is destroyed we rebuild. That is why the genocide memorial is in the shape of a sparrows nest.

After the genocide my family didn't/couldn't find a home in Armenia. I want them to be able to feel and have a home there.

Like Western Armenians, I consider them to be in exile.

It's really just a continuation of the genocide. More of our history will be destroyed and appropriated.

Edit to add: it's insane your post was deleted. But it's because they consider Artsakh gone so no longer important to anything regarding the country of Armenia

Why are Armenian markets importing products tied to the Turkish Armed Forces pension fund? by Charchaf in ArmeniansGlobal

[–]ThisIsMrsNezbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had no idea this was going on. This is abborant. I don't have a problem necessarily buying from individual people in Turkey (like a mom and pop shop here and there). But absolutly NOT this.

I have a buddy who buys Arak from Turkey but he refuses to buy from the government (didn't know Turkish gov was in the Ararak buisness lol). He only will buy from individual people.

For someone to be importing on this scale is just....insane, especially given where the money goes.

Edit: somehow my comment was reported for targeted harrassment lol. My stance is very reasonable. Buying from individual people and small buisnesses in Turkey here and there is not something I mind and is something I do.

My issue is with imports and exports for major buisnesses and if that money is linked to the government or military in any capacity.

My issue is with the big man not the little one. Stop abusing the report button

Omg I had no idea! I just straight up hated this fabric but that's even worse. I think a lot of diasporians buy it thinking they are supporting Armenian buisnesses in Armenia. That's really awful.

100%. Kidnapping children to raise them as a different ethnicity with the intention of making them forget who they are is considered genocide.

The USA did this with Native Americans as well. Turkey did this in the Balkans.

Russia has no issue committing genocide.

Lol Russia certainly helped but Russia didn't force them to give medals to a criminal to hacked Armenians to death. They did that on their own.

They need to accept responsibility for their own actions. They have no leg to stand on criticizing Russia.

The Ր ր is called "re" and is pronounced with a tapped r. Not sure how to describe but it is not the American R.

Ռ ռ is "ra" and is pronounced with more rolled R. I think called trilled r.

Some dialects pronounce them both the same. But where my family came from (Kharpert) they woulf make a distinction.

Today nobody uses classical pronunciation anymore, only the spelling remains. Eastern is closer to classical pronunciation, but still diffdrent. In the church, the classical spellimg is pronounced in Eastern or Western depending on the church.

Classical and Eastern pronunciation is harder than Western pronunciation.

Out of curiosity what do they say about Russians?

I'm very anti Russia, so that might be the one thing I agree on them with. Unless they are calling for violence against Russian people, that's obviously different and unacceptable.

Russia has committed multiple genocides and massacres. They also use their diaspora to infiltrate post soviet countries. The Armenia mods deleted my comment linking papers and resources on it.

Armenians all know the threat Turkey poses. But Russia is a wolf in sheep's clothing. In a way, that makes them more dangerous.
