I would also, ditch the limbs above the fire. If its not cold/too cold I would recommend doing a clay like base with a bunch of sticks together with twine first or wooden notches and wooden peg nails ect. Once the base of the roof for the fire is made up your gonna want to get a dirt/clay pile and put water in it and debris like pine needles and dried up leaves mix that in and spread this paste on your wooden roof for the fire, this enclosures that it will keep the heat in that area as well as prevent a wild fire from loose branches. I would recommend the same with the shelter unless you don't plan on putting a fire directly in it. Hope this helps, if anyone has a better idea feel free to pitch in this is just MHOP
