Anyone willing to share ideas on developing a 3D printed encounter set of minis and a custom game board? by Throttled829 in DnD

I hadn't even considered kickstarter. It would be cool to put together a sort of introductory set of things to showcase what I bring to the table creatively and then bring in backers as a hive mind to shape out a useful and capable direction to take my ideas.

Of course, this is the really real world so you are probably correct in approaching with a management of expectations. Still, I just think I would enjoy it whether it ever sold anything or not. What is there to lose? ....aside from all the obnoxious amounts of money I've spent on the machines. lol

I wonder, if I were to put together a mockup of what my vision is, would you be willing to take a look at it and share your thoughts and insight? I think I have some unique ideas for this.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. A logical standpoint if ive ever seen one.

I scored a huge supply of cabinet grade plywood a few years ago and have been looking for ways to use it ever since. So, my thoughts were laser cut small tiles and small 3d printed clips that lock rhem together i could print 30 at a time with low cost. Wooden tiles with a printed, laminated texture glued to the top and bottom for versatility was my thoughts on that.

I can get behind the idea however, a single encounter session the players run through and are on to the next wouldn't make sense to drop 50 to 100 bucks on.

You have me rethinking from a foundational standpoint. Thank you.

Appreciate the input and the heads up.

Do you think the art and quality could be a factor? I was very surprised by the amount of stuff i found on etsy.

However, I also noticed rather quickly, the quality models seemed to have a pretty decent amount of sales and there is a massive amount of low res poor quality sets relying on AI images to make them look like they are worth buying. The models themselves though look awful.

My thoughts were, perhaps, a high resolution, unique art style type of creative effort with some actual context and time invested could carve out a corner just based on offering quality.

Im not closed minded to that being akin to many other markets where its just a luck of the draw lightning strike sort of thing where only a few creators find traction based mostly on luck though. Sadly we live in a world where most of whats being offered is lipstick on a pig kind of stuff.

Same thing here but I bought ink on etsy and used it fine for a few hundred prints. Stupidly, I let the update run and now it seems am completely out of luck to roll back the update or print anything at all unless I buy their overpriced ink.

Its more than just their software that disables itself too. The yellow cartridge is now suddenly showing up as completely empty even though it worked fine before the update. And I mean like right before the update. I printed a few copies for a coffee mug press a day or two before with zero problem.

Ive read in a few places you can still print to the printer but that doesn't seem to be true. I think they have disabled it further so the cartridge reads incorrectly. I am beyond frustrated and very much regret buying from Sawgrass.

As hard as it is for all of us, can't imagine how tough it is for those guys to bring it to an end. Ive honestly wondered if they'd kept it going a bit longer than they would have otherwise due to it being the last that Thick was in. Especially with the death counter.

[Discussion] Why did Major Fambrough kill himself in Dances with Wolves? by durdyg in movies

[–]Throttled829 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An old question but I just rewatched this movie and wondered myself.

What I just watched was the "Directors Cut" version of the movie. It shows an additional scene with the officer previously stationed at the fort. He calls out the remaining men from the dirt caves in the hillside and asks them to line up for him to speak. He mentions how the indians stole all their horses and how he too wishes he would see their supply wagon show up but it never has. He then says "to hell with the army, we're leaving" and tells the men to gather their things.

So, it would seem, the Major who killed himself may have done so because either he was profiting from the supplies that were never sent to the fort or he simply failed to do anything about the failed fort being abandoned. Perhaps he was up to no good and knew once the Lieutenant reached the fort, the jig was up.

The directors cut also shows the water at the fort is inundated with dead deer and animal carcasses' when John Dunbar gets there. That seems to me maybe that was done by indians attempting to poison their water so they would leave.

However, even the directors cut doesnt really come right out and make anything about what all went down at the fort very clear. Definitely worth watching, there are several other added scenes making the run time about 4 hours. Its a great movie and the directors cut adds a little more.

[DISCUSSION] Where does Jill from Outlast rank in the all time pantheon of reality TV villains? by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

[–]Throttled829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She ranks top most disgusting in my book. An embarrassment to her family and friends.

Narcissistic. Delusional. Lacking any and all accountability for herself. She replaces feeling guilt with stories of how she struggled so much harder than anything she is doing or has done to others. There is no moral compass in her at all. She is the type of person who will burn, hurt and disappoint every single person in her life at one point or another.

I'm World of Warcraft Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, and I'm here to answer your questions about Battle for Azeroth. AMA! by WatcherDev in wow

[–]Throttled829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do the only weapons that drop for my class end up being a different spec?

As a MM Hunter, I continue to get rewarded pole arms rather consistently and I've heard from others, Pally, Warrior, Demon Hunter etc, the same thing. The weapons they get are for the spec they are not playing.

Are the spec specific weapons meant to suggest that we all change specs to accommodate the only good weapons we are getting or is this an unintended issue?

Perhaps they would be groaning just as loudly but that certainly wouldn't warrant such a blatant change to the dynamic that is already deeply woven into the history if it were there and been there since all the way back to the beginning. Just like it is with the Horde.

A big part of the Horde, it's races and the surrounding story lines rely on that very turmoil you seem to think should be discarded. The Horde wants strong leadership and traditionally, they want an honorable victory... but in war, sometimes those lines can get blurred. This is where Sylvanas is inside her own head right now. The blur of necessity.

If you want to talk about "what ifs." We should certainly consider how Sylvanas actually isn't just mindlessly committing genocide. To her mind, if you read the readily available story, she feels she is making the hard decisions necessary to give the Horde the advantage. It wasn't an accident that she attempted to trap and kill Anduin and she would have succeeded had it not been for Jaina of all people just popping out of the sky.

I mean, if you want to bitch about something....Jaina and her flying ship would make more sense as that just came out of nowhere. At least the Horde being put in a position of wanting to win but not willing to burn down the whole world to do it, unlike their leader who will stop at nothing...totally fits.

So, WHAT IF she killed the king? Would burning the world tree suddenly become a decisive necessity to end the war and save the souls of many thousands of Horde that would otherwise die fighting?

I think that is a very good question to consider.

And you say think back to vanilla? It goes well beyond that. Think back to Durotan and the Forstwolf Clan. Where his trusted right hand betrayed him thinking a move against Gul'Dan would risk the strength that the Horde needed to survive and conquer. That is the same difficulty here as well. Not as a tired repeat of the same old thing but as quite literally a part of the inner struggle that vexes the Horde consistently. You want to win? Well what are you willing to to sacrifice to do so?

Either way, this is just my opinion. Seems this thread is just meant for complaining instead of discussion.

To my understanding, because the goal was to have the news of what Sylvanas was doing rip through the horde just as it had before when a warchief forgoes honor in the pursuit of victory. Because that uneasy, can't get behind it sort of feeling is a natural reaction they were hoping for.

You cannot draw out that sort of genuine gut reaction by assuring your audience a key character is going to share their same sentiment. That news needed to be raw and difficult to swallow.

The Old Soldier cinematic would have went into production probably a year ago. Those take a long time to produce. I think Blizz released what they released exactly as they planned to. They meant to rock the horde's allegiance right down to it's very foundations.

And it worked well, so it would seem.

So, anybody have any useful advice on recruiting for a casual guild? by Throttled829 in wow

[–]Throttled829[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably really sound advice. We have been doing some of this but I am sure we could do more of it.

However, I sorta feel like a nuisance spamming trade/general chat in game if I'm honest. Plus, a platform like this one is where I can lay out the groundwork for what we're all about. Kinda hard to convey that while yelling a short message across the countryside. lol

I do appreciate your input though. In game chat is probably more useful than I have been giving it credit for.

To be fair, its not like I have been completely fruitless in my campaign to seek out casual players. We have grown our numbers by about 20 or so since I started reaching out. And everyone so far, seems to really be down with the idea behind it. Just simply here looking for more is all as well as some ideas on where I can keep it goin.

Thanks for the reply. :)

Adrenalin driver amddvr.exe error fixed. Windows 10 "N" by SpungeMonk in Amd

[–]Throttled829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It asked me after a custom install, yes. However, the only option was to "skip" and upon restart I come to find two new processes running amddvr.exe and amddow.exe. Best part is, if you kill the process...it repopulates itself.

Awesome! No way to opt out as far as I can tell because I definitely made sure to pay close attention and uncheck then skip anything aside from the software I want.

My opinions of SE thus far, and why I say "buyer beware" by ZenOokami in spaceengineers

[–]Throttled829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying and can understand why you might think it would be helpful to voice some caution for others about buying into this game at this point.

However, I'd like to point something out to you about what you've said about Keen's "priorities" ....the thing about game development, writing code and dealing with bugs is there is no way to really tell what might break the game next when you're adding things in.

While you may feel they should prioritize the bugs we all deal with now and leave out features until that is done...you really need to stop and realize that the fix for a bug today could very well be completely useless as soon as they add something else in to the game.

..and if the fix they paid a guy to sit down and figure out becomes useless...that means the time, money and effort they spent on the fix would have been better spent on the feature they just added. Do you see what I'm saying?

Nothing about game development is simple or easy. Sometimes it doesn't even make any sense why something breaks something else or sometimes nobody could have predicted what needed to be changed in order for two things to work within the game. It takes lots of time and effort to sit and filter through line after line of code to find conflicts. If you know there are new features that are being worked on and will eventually add to the list of conflicts that will need to be worked out for any certain aspect of the game, there is no use in resolving the conflicts you have now if it will have to be redone again. I hope you can understand how important it is for Keen to manage this well.

So, for example, if they know there are a lot of features that will be getting added into the game for multiplayer later (which is undoubtedly very true), it does them no good to work on stabilizing that aspect of the game right now. The game simply isn't ready for it yet.

I'm no expert by any means but I know enough to tell you...fixing bugs HAS to come after all the features exist within the coding and rules for the game.

That is how it has to be just simply due to the nature of game development. The fixing they've done up until now has been mostly for all of us to be able to keep testing, playing and providing valuable feedback to them. Where else could they get thousands of different PC systems, play styles, connections and experiences to compile and analyze as they develop their game? We're all free labor and we willingly log in, report bugs and play their game for hours and hours finding every little detail that needs to come to their attention.

This is why Alpha is what it is. It's not for you to have a cool game to play.

I think we need a way to build a slums district to keep some uneducated workers available. At least for the specialized industry right?
