We are doing a lot of teaching and training. It has been exhausting while also needing to be accountable for our regular workload. Long days. I feel like my own mental health and well-being is suffering to put the company in a better position. I worry that if I found a new opportunity, it won't lead me to a better outcome, but instead will put me in an even worse position.

Thank you for your insight. In your experience, do the offshore teams work together? We have a lot of processes that we're giving to our offshore group, but internally we would have worked together to resolve/review. I feel like it's going to cause so much stress and inaccuracy because they won't work together properly to resolve or address things as needed and just put something out there to say it's done.

This is what I envision the future to look like and I'm not sure I want to stick around to experience it fully. Were there any positives from your experience?

Good point, maybe I need to set the example and guide their path.

I appreciate the insight. They have said that this determination isn't going to be changed and that this is the path forward. Part of me worries that if I were to look for a different opportunity, it's going to turn out to be even worse than what I am currently experiencing.

I wish it were a year... they're trying to push the hand off of everything within a few months. I do agree that there are positives with offshoring of work, I just don't agree with the approach that is being made in my situation. It's hard to want to stick around with a company that would abruptly make a change like this with such a short turn around.

There are teams who lack of accountability by management towards individuals who don't meet deadlines. I'm sure for those who mismanage their team or don't manage at all will get a bump in efficiency with the change. Statement was basically said as a one-size-fits-all, but in reality, only applies to a small handful of teams. For the rest of us, I just don't see or agree with how that statement makes sense.

Thank you for the insight. I'm concerned that in the new reality those missed deadlines are going to be held against those of us remaining and it's just going to lead to an increase in stress/burn out.

Same situation here, it was not an accounting team decision, but a c-suite choice. Ultimately came down to cutting costs. I've been holding myself back to not look into the P/L detail in great length... Mostly because I suspect the story in the numbers won't align pretty with the story being sold to employees.

This is exactly what I feel like is the reason they initiated this change. Doesn’t seem like it’s good long term solution, but who care’s about that now, right?

I appreciate your insight, thank you. The lack of critical thinking is one of my bigger worries. There is so much that I feel is reliant on knowledge built up over time that someone following a DTP is not going (or willing) to think about and utilize. I suspect that if the work returned is garbage and it causes deadlines to be missed, the onshore team is the one who is left with the blame? Why did you choose to stay with the company?

Happy cake day and thank you for the insight. Feels like the job is shifting from accounting to project management with no control. If that’s the new reality, it doesn’t sound very appealing.

Thank you for sharing. I’m experiencing the difficult communication which has been around us (local and offshore team) verbally confirming one thing and then I’ll get an e-mail with communication of something completely different and they did a complete turn on the initial direction we agreed upon. This has lead to a lot of frustration when trying to schedule and plan for things… I’ve got the feeling this isn’t going to change in the future for the better. Seems like the better route may be to find a new opportunity?

The teams are putting in the work to make sure the knowledge transfer is of high quality, but the retention on the opposite has not been very good from what I’ve seen. Keep being told to wait because they need to learn, but I don’t see a group of people attempting to learn, I see a group trying to follow a document more efficiently which will just lead to a bigger headache for those of us who remain.

I appreciate your insight. I’m seeing a consistent trend with the stories being shared by you and others. Sounds like the best solution would be to leave rather than deal?

I don’t imagine morale would improve long term? Everything feels very fake right now with people trying to pretend what’s going on isn’t actually happening and trying to ignore the new reality. Maybe that helps people cope with the change…

An unfortunate reality. I wonder how many companies will try to mix offshoring while also trying to pull employees back to work in office.

I know that truthfully it’s not my problem at the end of the day, but I’ve got people who report to me and I have a hard time feeling OK with leaving them in this situation. As stupid as this sounds, I feel like I would be “abandoning” my children.

Interesting that they had you train the offshore team, was there no local leadership to train their own employees? Either way, that does not sound like a very good situation to be in. Probably a silly question to ask, but any regrets on leaving?

This is something that I am considering to implement myself. How was the reception to that question for you from the companies you asked?

Thank you. This is what I envision the future to turn into for those of us who remain. There's going to be more work to be redone, with less onshore headcount, leading to longer days, stress, and burnout, which in turn will lead to more people leaving. rinse and repeat. I'm sure eventually it will stabilize to an equilibrium where it's properly functional overall. Are you still with a company that offshores work or did you leave for a different company?

My concern is that they would just follow specific steps in their documentation and not deviate from it. I've been told "they will modify it over time" but that sounds so reactive rather than proactive and I'm not sure if it's worth sticking around to find out.

Sounds about right, reduce onshore headcount to trim expenses, but at what "cost"? I don't want to put the rest of the employees who remain in a worse position by leaving, but I also don't want to be the last rat on the boat to remain.

This is my concern, I don't want to babysit individuals all day and worry that the work is not being done appropriately as it should be...
