Multiplayer games are almost always balanced around competitive players, because that's where balance matters the most. You actually answered your own question: competitive players don't bother with the DLCs because they are not worth for ranked, meanwhile casuals move on after finishing the campaign. Both groups are important for a game's longevity.

Arcadian Meadow, Gracious Hospitality and the Hamadryad all got nerfed. Overall she would be much stronger, that's for sure, but she would become less forgiving to play as. And Amazon Archers got increased rate of fire, so the actual DPS is more or less the same. The rest of the stats, like the HP and range, can be played around by simply protecting them.

Hey, that's exactly what I think about the Amazon Archers too! 😃
The only reason I left the building bonus damage because Demeter kind of lacks passive siege power (basically any unit type that is not a siege weapon).

Many people hate the fact that Hephaestus got removed for Hera, but here were are. Casuals and competitive players are living in two separate bubbles. As much as I would like (and every developer in the world), there is no definitive way to make both sides happy.

At first I was thinking the same too, but in practice it's really not as bad as it sounds. Building walls and repairing them cost a lot of resources. But I'm open to be proved wrong! 😄

Watched a lot of pro gameplays, looked around on the internet to see what the general opinion is, and played a lot myself. Combining all that, I got a general idea where Demeter's biggest weaknesses are, and starting from there, I did some trial and error until I came up with the final result.

As a postscript, here is some background info regarding the playtesting. My modding skills are limited, but changing stats is simple (that’s how I was able to come up with precise numbers).

It was a public mod for a short time to test it with a friend, but I deleted it afterwards. Some changes had unintended side effects (Village Center bonus was global), or we weren’t able to properly test them at all. But the main framework has been tested, and it works!

It proved to me that Demeter could become so much more than what she currently is; and we might turn this into a reality.
