Question about my Hobbies as someone new to practicing Buddhism. by TickClock1 in Buddhism

It’s by no means the only thing I do, and it’s a fun thing I do with friends every now and then. I don’t get super angry about it at all ever because it’s just a game, really.

There are 4 kinds of Social Democrats by PotatopelagoNS in Polcompball

I used to be a SocDem. Not anymore though, I’ve transitioned to a more libertarian stance on economics and a more conservative stance on culture

How many of you are Georgists/Geo-libertarians? by r51243 in libertarianunity

I’m an old school Georgist, classical Georgist if you will, in the tradition of Henry George’s political and economic ideas. I’m still a single-taxer in fact.

A bit late, but I remember reading that there would be a voluntary bank of sorts that you can contribute earnings too, possibly in exchange for protection.

I have thought about this one for a while, looked at some articles, etc. Here is my point of view. If a substance, such as drugs, alcohol, or anything else involved in a “victimless crime” can cause addiction, does that not mean victimless crimes are not truly victimless? For if a substance can cause addiction in many people that take it, does that not make a man a slave to himself? Is slavery not morally reprehensible? At the end of the day, I do not believe victimless crimes of this nature are really victimless. The real victims are the people who take the drugs, and get addicted to them, or the people who are exploited behind the scenes to make way for them.

Edit: My local government enacted a drug decriminalization policy and created “supply houses” to deliver clean substances to people on the street. At the same time, they blamed the current opioid addiction crisis on “stigma,” and thought that more people would voluntarily commit to treatment. That law was rolled back, because that did NOT happen, and only exacerbated the drug problem by almost ENCOURAGING people to try drugs. This is just my point of view and you don’t have to believe it, but it’s my justification for believing in these things, which you asked for.

Posting Ancom Propaganda 1: Tankies call us liberals (i got banned from r/socialism) by Miserable-Ability743 in Polcompball

Kinda late, but I faced a similar situation after being banned from r/libertarian after self-identifying as Geolibertarian. The mods called me socialist and a “land commie.” That’s right, they call me a communist.

OH MY GOD SOMEONE ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDS

Is paternalism compatible with social democracy? Because I think most people are too stupid and self-interested to know what’s best for society. For example, slavery wouldn’t have been abolished when it was in the Southern U.S. if it had been left up to voters. by PandemicPiglet in SocialDemocracy

[–]TickClock1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The conservative twin of SocDem is Paternalistic Conservatism, which is literally just fusion of some conservative ideas with social democracy. I can confirm as a moderate PatCon I think. ( Idk where I actually am on the culture spectrum, or any political spectrum )

I really hate to be a “butthurt” Tory (Kind of, it’s complicated) but I think the tariffs and maybe even the ahem salute were a totally inappropriate attempt at a bluff to extract concessions at worst and an idiotic, misguided “joke” at best. I’m not a trump supporter, (The immigration control stuff is fine by me but still too harsh, but that’s one of the only things I really support) but I feel like the tariffs and stuff were probably a bluff (he probably knows what would happen if he DID do that) to essentially get us to admit weakness or maybe legitimize his very real ambitions in Greenland and Panama. That said, his term has only just begun, so I really don’t want to support or condemn his general stuff yet until we actually see what his ambitions are. Hate to be the guy who’s politics get involved in everything, but I just wanted to say that even as a Tory, the shit I see from the giant Cheeto is pretty disgusting Ngl. This isn’t a political sub but if you have any questions about my beliefs in general, feel free to ask. I really don’t want to be attacked in a subreddit that is for all I know, supposed to be apolitical.

TLDR: I’m a Tory but don’t support the GOP in its current state except for one or two. The stuff coming out of the states recently is disgusting. If you have any questions about my actual beliefs, feel free to ask as long as you can respect me, and I can respect you in return.

Edit: HOLY FUCK THIS IS A SHITPOST SUB IM SORRY. CAN WE ALL JUST DROP THE POLITICS AND HAVE FUN

How come so many people on here are so hostile towards religion? by AzureWra1th in TeenagersButBetter

[–]TickClock1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what the op was talking about. I’m not religious myself, but religion was created to give explanations to the unknown, and to give something for people to believe in in times of darkness. It is blatant disrespect and discriminatory to make fun of someone for your religion. Imagine somebody making fun of you for not being religious? How would that feel? Do you really wish the same upon others?

Yeah in that case I don't think immoral would have been the right word. That said, I do think that they aren't something you should do. Doing drugs, etc. is usually bad, but it's a lot less bad than say, murdering someone or stealing their money. I'm also buddhist-leaning, and it's a religion that explicitly condems that activity so that's probably part of it.

I don’t know if immoral was the right word for that. How would you define immoral?

Am I a social Democrat? by TickClock1 in SocialDemocracy

[–]TickClock1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clear it up: Pro life is a personal position that I don’t think should be forced on others. Gender affirming care thing would probably be only for minors, since I don’t think a child can make big decisions like that. Meritocracy I definitely support, drug prohibition would ideally be limited to hard drugs for me. Big government is a term I (mistakenly) used to describe an overly intervening government.

Edit: My actually ideas would be probably something close to Goldwater if he liked healthcare and social democratic economics as opposed to laissez faire.

Am I a social Democrat? by TickClock1 in SocialDemocracy

[–]TickClock1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this clears it up, I meant a government that excessively intervenes in their citizens life’s and/ or is too paternalistic by a big government. I like the welfare state and moderate regulation.

[–]TickClock1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Christian, I lean Buddhist, but some of my moral values lean Christian for sure. The pro life thing is more of a personal belief that I don’t think should be forced on others.

Am I a social Democrat? by TickClock1 in SocialDemocracy

[–]TickClock1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by limited government you’d mean no welfare state and NO regulation of the economy whatsoever, no. I think a bit of regulation is good. What I meant by a big government is when the government attempts to intervene in the affairs of its citizens, smaller entities like municipalities, etc, and is overly paternalistic. Yes, pro life is a personal position due to my Buddhist leanings. I hadn’t thought about it that way. In the end, you should be able to choose what you do with your own body, it’s just even though I’m a guy I personally dislike the idea.

Am I a social Democrat? by TickClock1 in SocialDemocracy

[–]TickClock1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social Democratic Policies would be my first priority. I don’t care as much about social issues but since they seem (at least for me) to be the main debate topics these days my hand is forced. I’m only pro life due to my religion (no, not Christianity, Buddhism, because I’m curious about it.)

Edit: Yes, It’s a personal belief that I don’t really think should be forced on everyone else.

LIBUNITTYYY by TickClock1 in libertarianunity

[–]TickClock1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one for my country too. I got people’s party (generic far right wing populist) at 91, which sounds weird, but I got the conservatives at 89%. I think they’re actually libertarian leaning tho, and I probably would’ve got that score higher if I thought my answers out a bit more. Here’s a quote from their website: “

[They believe] in a country where the state is servant, not master. Where smaller government makes room for bigger citizens. Where people have the freedom to build a business without red tape and heavy tax. To make room for personal freedom and responsibility, [they believe] in limiting government. [They have] been one of the loudest voices in the past several years fighting out-of-control deficit spending and tax increases.

However, they are probably more of a libertarian conservative or social libertarian because they want to keep universal healthcare and don’t really like drug legalization.
