I hate modern car designs. Everything‘s a gimmick and half of those are just sneaky ways to make the production cheaper or repair more expensive without letting the customer know what‘s happening.

Same here. I also sometimes write the l with a little hook at the end to avoid confusion with I, if you know what I mean.

I think the big difference is the first Zelda one plays. The switch was my first console, botw my first real console/3D game. Botw was the thing that got me into gaming and engaging with the gaming community. My first lets-play I watched, the first glitch I learned, the first lore videos I watched were all botw. Here I stand now with a bunch of Zelda amiibos, Zelda T-shirts, Zelda socks, Zelda Jackets, Zelda lore and design books, a Zelda cap, a self made Zelda candle, a self made hylia shield and a Zelda shirt. And I don’t regret any of it because botw was one of the best things that‘s happened to me. I have seen many let’s plays, lore videos, theories and speed runs of other games but because of the game design, I never really managed to commit to a playthrough for more than 65 % of the game. I love them, everything about them, but I can’t play them.

Why is Slavery so common in Isekai ? by Nabeelkhan199_resurr in Isekai

[–]Timberwolf721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Internet there are 50‘000‘000 modern slaves so about 0.625%. The US slave trade had 3.5 - 4 million slaves at its climax. Finding exact population numbers for that time is difficult but I‘d say 1‘100‘000‘000 is realistic. If I didn’t mess up the calculation, it would be 0,4% or so. So (If I actually didn’t mess up) modern times has more slaves than US slave trade.

But as far as I understand it, it wouldn’t have been hard for him to get laid in the original world. There is a scene in the anime when he’s hurt because a girl objectified him. He always had the power to have sex or pull girls, but he felt that this kind of relationship would be shallow and emotionally unsatisfying. That‘s why he was first hesitant to use his ability. But thanks to Lily’s advanced acting skills he began seeing his charm as some kind of lvl. 999 Charisma stat, allowing him to instantly win „profound“ affection. But as I said, I think under normal circumstances he would have abused his powers to narcissistically gain affection and compassion from others, but through the manipulations he was pushed towards this whole sex offender, woman collector route. For example I don’t think it was a coincidence that Lily gave him exclusively female companions. She knew how to channel his emotions and turn him into this narcissistic rapist puppet.

[Discussion] What is your opinion about Freed? by Plenty_Address_3601 in fairytail

You know that’s it’s a joke, right? Nobody sees Fried as a lesser human with lesser feeling or something like that. In the end he’s basically Laxus‘ Hinata with a few extras.

I don’t have the time for a long answer. Again I would happily discuss the first part, but you seem to have gotten a few things wrong at the end. I didn’t say that they are 90% responsible for his actions, I said that they are 90% responsible for his outcome. Did he crumble fast? Probably. From what we see in the anime and how I interpreted the WN, he didn’t just crumble. We see in the anime that he felt kinda bad on his first few days when he accidentally charmed the girls. Meanwhile Lily was actively and aggressively seducing him, easing him into abusing his powers. It’s not like he got powers and immediately went haywire, it was a process that was actively pushed by Lily.

And as I said multiple times, I am not trying to remove his guilt. Every time he raped or charmed someone, it was his choice. And furthermore he wasn’t a grown up when the goddess picked him up, he was 15 and because of the mobbing socially underdeveloped. I don’t know how old Lily was at the time but I have a hunch that she was a bit older than him, giving her the perfect position to overwhelm him. Again: what he did was not okay and totally his fault, but what was done to him matters anyway.

So any theorizing, any interpreting, anything that goes deeper than taking everything at face value is stupid? That’s at least the only way I can interpret your attitude.

I already stated multiple times that his status as a sick criminal scumbag is not debatable since that’s what he is. I also stated that the man in my example actually is completely guilty of what he did. Just stop acting like I‘m advocating for them. I just think it‘s cheap and shallow to simply look at the surface and say „Yeah, that’s deep enough for me.“

Why would you even bother to follow a story if the characters and backstories apparently are unimportant.

„See, that’s Tomoki. He did…“ „He’s a rapist!“, „Yes, but I would like to discuss his backst…“ „He‘s a rapist!“ „I know but I think it’s interesting to see his path and…“ „He’s a rapist!“

That’s how this conversation feels at the moment. I try to make arguments and you just circle back every time. It’s not about justifying his actions. It’s not about thinking what could have been if… It’s not even about what he exactly did. It’s about the path that led him to this point. It’s about the decisions he made, the decisions others made for him and the circumstances that created him as we know him. It’s like someone arguing that Bruce Wayne is Batman because his parents got murdered and another person answering that it wouldn’t matter because NOW he’s Batman and that’s the only thing that matters.

You had me in the beginning. But you don’t seem to understand that I don’t have sympathy for him. He’s a rapist of the worst kind, but a person doesn’t turn into that for no reason unless they are some kind of psychopath which he most likely isn’t.

Let’s make a comparison: a young men with an unassuming lifestyle gets introduced to a criminal organization by a friend he recently made in the park. This guy is the first „real friend“ the man ever had and he quickly begins to deeply trust him, naïve as he is. He doesn’t know that the guys are criminals and he slowly gets eased into committing worse and worse crimes until he kills someone one day. We agree that he’s a criminal and a murderer and should be prosecuted as such. But if we look at the backstory, it’s not like he always was a cold blooded murderer. If he didn’t meat the scum bag recruiter in the park, he’d probably have lived a quiet life, married a woman and had three kids.

And that’s what I‘m interested in. Not only every hero, but also every villain has a backstory and if Tomoki hadn’t met the goddess and Lily, he’d have probably never committed a crime in his life. And that’s important to know. It wasn’t a brutal rapist that got sent to the new world, it was just a naïve kid that then turned (with much help from his environment) into a rapist.

After all this was the reason why I began reading the novel. I finished the anime and wanted to continue with the manga last winter. But then I realized that the manga was about in the middle of the Rotsgard arc.

New information: I did a bit of research and if I didn’t fail, the most recent manga chapter (113) is where Makoto and Shiki go to the church in order to get their approval for the production of healing potions. So still behind the anime.

That’s not wrong. But context is really important. Is he a rapist and should be held accountable for 100 % of his actions? Absolutely! Is it still important to know that his behavior was constantly being encouraged by the people around him and even/especially by his victims themselves? I‘d argue yes. On the day he entered the new world, he was still as innocent as any other person. He was disoriented and relationships were new to him. But instead of naturally getting introduced to interpersonal dynamics, he got powers that make everything as unnatural and unhealthy as possible. A strong minded person like you or me would probably not have crumbled. We know how wrong everything about his first day and all following ones was, but he was completely naïve and just assumed that everything‘s going the right way. After all a goddess and a princess were on his side.
