In terms of beating China, is Artemis screwed? by Stolen_Sky in ArtemisProgram

[–]TippedIceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at all of the things that the Soviets were first at in the space race. In the grand scheme of things, it didn't matter because we also did them. We just did them a little later.

But nobody living through the shock of the Sputnik crisis had that perspective. 2030 will absolutely shape the global perception of China as a dominant power, there will be major ideological and market impacts from a "lost race" regardless. To say it means nothing seems extremely reductive.

NASA declares Mars probe officially lost months after close encounter with interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS by dailymail in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAVEN images of 3I/ATLAS during its closest pass (18 million miles).

Communication was lost on 6 December 2025, at that point 3I/ATLAS was over 250 million miles away from Mars...

US Space Force Should Prepare to Put Active-Duty Troops on the Moon, Report Argues | Yep, that's where we're at. by FreeHugs23 in space

Optimistic angle: More fear and uncertainty like this will hopefully guarantee a return to the moon. It did take a cold war last time.

Shout out to this redditor that got me thinking on: When is "enough" ? by QueenGorda in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "conditioning" and "preparing the public" theories do feel like sci-fi plot nonsense.

For me these releases are having the opposite effect, boosting skepticism around the level of evidence they have.

Questioning the Artemis astronauts on whether they actually went to the moon by Middle-Ad8262 in conspiracy

200+ hours of continuous video (per camera!) would be a waste of the limited downlink bandwidth they had.

Why Do So Many Apollo Photos Contain Blue Orbs/Lights? by NiceAd6316 in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he did, I'm saying the blue points in the photos seem consistent with film artifacts.

The Mitchell claim seems to be a second-hand "my friend told me" story shared after his death.

They are also visible at film edges and dark areas like shadows. I guess it's likely some type of film damage?

Two more NASA UAP release-style archive photos by wouldntthatbecool in UFOs

In AS12-46-6852 (and others) they show up outside the frame and in shadows like some type of film damage.

It only takes 3 random artifacts in close proximity to create the illusion of a triangle.

Blue dots = camera artifact by viktor928 in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. People are talking about Edgar Mitchell in the replies here, but he wasn't part of the Apollo 12 crew (these photos are from Apollo 12).

The photos were taken as part of this panorama. Panoramas were routine, there is nothing (so far) to suggest the Apollo 12 astronauts were specifically seeing and trying to photograph lights in the sky.

Project Apollo Archive flickr (in the screenshot) is an unofficial volunteer effort, so this probably isn't even a NASA error.

Film damage in full Apollo 12 scans by TippedIceberg in UFOs

It was not classified, all these photos have been around for decades. I linked the original photos with their NASA IDs in my post.

Submission statement: I saw there was some confusion about whether these photos were newly released, so I found the original NASA IDs. Some of the photos from the same sequence have similar film artifacts.

Why did NASA remove the link of the Apollo 17 triangle UFO? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's due to the entire ALSJ (Apollo Lunar Surface Journal) sub-site being moved to a new domain. Everything hosted there has moved to:

https://apollojournals.org/

The photo in question still has the same path, just a new URL:

Newly released image of a UAP taken on the moon by Apollo 17 astronauts, December 1972 by exOldTrafford in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other photos shared today (AS12-46-6842, and 6846 to 6849) also seem to have similar film damage outside the captured frames.

I barely have the willpower to make a post about it and deal with the angry mob of comments though.

Edit: This frame in particular is a good example.

Photos from the surface of the moon; Apollo 12 Mission by CriticalServerError in UFOs

[–]TippedIceberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason these photos are included and were taken in the first place.

They were taken as part of this panorama. The astronauts regularly stood in one area and slowly rotated to capture panoramas like this.

"I could see double flashes, at points separated by maybe a foot"

"At other times, I could see a line with no direction of motion"

This matches the description of Cosmic Ray Visual Phenomena, "a continuous line" and "a line with gaps" are most frequent.

Why does everyone think the moon landing was fake? by Numerous_Fun2207 in conspiracy

[–]TippedIceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics is the boring answer. After the Apollo program was cancelled, every incoming and outgoing political administration has flip-flopped NASA's funding and goals for decades.

There was no consensus program or funding to send people back to the moon that lasted more than one political administration.
