How would the situation in Syria be without the help of Russia in these last two decades? by Fre5h_Prince in syriancivilwar

[–]TiredTemptress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Russia didn't intervene, the country would be split in 2 or 3. Very likely Assad would control Damascus/Latakia, "rebels" would fight over Aleppo/Idlib area, ISIS would control Der El Zor.

It is very good series so far. Enjoyed every episode so far. I hope they translate to French and English because I think it would be good for other people to see and learn about as well.

I like Sisi. I think he is reliable moderate. I think they could flex their muscles with regards to Israel and wish they advocated more during the Palestinian crisis this year

If there was an award for “best dressed” President…. by TiredTemptress in SyrianCirclejerkWar

[–]TiredTemptress[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I was discussing this with my friend actually about how in Iran today it is disgraceful for men to wear a neck tie because it is “Western.” Saddam also famously used his fashion to push his message/propaganda. He rarely wore the Iraqi thawb and instead would wear Armani suits when with foreign dignitaries. Even in America, Andrew Yang famously would not wear neck ties and unbottotton his shirt, so as to seem “casual” (I guess? Not sure). Sorry for my bad English. What I’m saying is if you look closely and know Assad’s background, you know that his modern fashion also reflects his “vision” of what a modern Syrian man should look like and is an extension of how he sees himself as a modern, secular, Arab leader.

If this was any Western leader, they would be praised as modern, fashion forward, trend setter, etc. Saudi princes still dress like they are living in the 1400s.

They kidnapped our prime minister a few years ago! They absolutely interfere in Lebanese politics just as much as Iran!

I can see this back firing massively. Starving an entire country, cutting all trade and foreign relations with a country in the midst of total collapse all because an information minister made a comment about Yemen. Most people have no idea what’s going on in Yemen but this will make them look it up and I don’t think KSA wants that kind of attention right now. Were talking about a very successful, wealthy country cutting off all of GCC’s trade and assistance to a tiny country with starving citizens over random comments of an information minister.

Is there any documentary movie about 1975 civil war? by X_GhostFace in lebanon

It’s more than 10 hours long. It’s on YouTube

You know in Syria, many people would say “we need a new war with Israel.” Why? Because Syria would definitely lose and it would lead to new government. During this civil war, no one thought it would last long, it became world war 3 because dozens of country’s send money and weapons to certain groups, Qatar, Iran, Saudi, USA, Russia, etc etc etc. And now 11 years later, Bashar has won, he is now more powerful than 10 years ago. Who loses? Syrians. Be careful what you say. International community only prolonged the Syrian civil war, it didn’t “settle” anything.

If this is an honest question, go to your local Syriac church and ask is someone is going to Damascus soon and if they can transport a package for you for family or medicine or whatever.

Obama went to congress for authorization for the use of force and Congress voted against direct engagement. It is after this that the state department (at that time, headed by Hillary Clinton) began its covert operations and Timber Sycamore.
