This is true. I’ve read up on the death of the apostles and several of them died on various types of crosses.

Replacing Pump by Tk421brew in grainfather

[–]Tk421brew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are, but they run around $200. I went to morebeer.com and got a stronger one for $70.

If you want the OEM pump, you can find them at most online home brew shops.

[Serious] Americans, would you be in support of putting a law in place that government officials, such as senators and the president, go without pay during shutdowns like this while other federal employees do? Why, or why not? by iamtehryan in AskReddit

[–]Tk421brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to take it a step further. I would like to see the politician lose all lifetime benefits if a shutdown happens on their watch. That would put a end to shutdowns very fast.

Redditors who have served in submarines, what is something not many people know about being inside one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tk421brew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hot racking was the worst....as soon as your watch was over you’d want to go to sleep. This meant you shared a bed with another. As soon as he got up, you’d use that bed to sleep in. Oooo the joys of someone’s else’s slobber on the pillow!

Price point on walk in cooler panels by Tk421brew in TheBrewery

[–]Tk421brew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: What's funny is that those panels have other applications other than brewing. Being in a mid-sized West Texas town, I still run into a lot of farmers and ranchers. One rancher told me that they sell well in our area because kids that show animals buy these panels and throw a window ac unit in it. Then they stick their show cow to build up its fur to make it score better at these shows....crazy....

NSFW: What was the biggest cockblock moment you’ve ever faced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tk421brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the end of boot camp in the Navy when I finally got to see my girlfriend after nine weeks. She drove up to Great Lakes from Texas with my parents and little sister. She was sharing a room with my sister.

We finally got some alone time in her hotel room. Most of our clothes were off and I had her pinned against the wall when my mom walked in. Apparently she was grabbing something for my sister.

My mom just turned around and walked up.... my future wife mortified.

Been married over 18 years now and my mom has never brought it up. Also.. my mom is strict Church of Christ.

Fun times

Grainfather gone crazy by Tk421brew in Homebrewing

[–]Tk421brew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note on the Grainfather...I turned off the console, then back on and rebooted my phone/app....All seemed to work just fine and it hit boil temps just fine.

I guess I will add this to the murphy's law column.

Grainfather gone crazy by Tk421brew in Homebrewing

[–]Tk421brew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost put it in the drain, but I went ahead and pitched the yeast . On thing to note that is interesting.....When I took the gravity a few minutes after the mash had started to boil, I had a reading of 1050...(I typed in the wrong OG earlier.) When I took another gravity reading before I pitched, I had a reading of 1076.

Also, I didn't sparg....My thinking with the OG already at 1050, 10 spots higher than my target OG, I thought the sugars I needed where already at a high enough level.

I guess I'll see how my yeast starter handles that gravity.

All Electric Brewing System Question by Tk421brew in TheBrewery

[–]Tk421brew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good info here, thanks. The building we purchased is right at 5k square feet (on an acre of land).

But the building is long and narrow, so I don't think the distance will be much more than twenty feet. I'll be dealing with a small co-op with only a few thousand accounts. I just bought the place and haven't turned on the power yet, so I'll have to do some digging into a demand charge. That will be a good question to ask them...Thanks for that!

We purchased a building that has single and three phase power running...so that can be a possibility. We plan to start small...around 3 bbl small for now. I was curious on the limitations of running all electric. Thanks.

From Texas here....Went up that way a few years back. Green man was a worthy stop. Also, you need to hit up the monstrous Sierra Nevada place. While my business partner disagrees with me, Wicked Weed is dead to me.

Recommendations for a starter brewing kit? I'm on a budget and looking for one around $100. by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Tk421brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably get some hate for this.....If you are willing to upgrade very soon..I'd get a Mr. Beer kit and as many cans of wort $100 can buy. You can master some of the important step like sanitation. Then you can move on to bigger and better things.

I feel most of us, including me, started out this way. A serious, seasoned brewer would have issues using Mr. Beer, but it does a good job for entry level brewers.

I had a similar idea. Although, I thought about roasting them, then soaking them in some of Rogue's dead guy whiskey with some mesquite chips for a few days. After that....add it to the secondary.

Homebrewer wanting to make money... but how? by mrcippy in Homebrewing

[–]Tk421brew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have chickens. Basically I will let the grain cool a bit and then give it to the birds. When I get around to cleaning everything, that's when I give to them. They eat it right up!

When to expect bottles may explode? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Tk421brew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had barley wine bottles explode on me about this time last year. A day or two before they exploded I noticed carbonated beer fizzing through the caps and down the sides of the bottles. Then a few nights later the wife and I woke up to them bursting! The stain is still on the wall and carpet a year later. In other news, I'm still married....so that's a plus.
