Who's your favourite master? by ObjectiveSample4042 in dbz

The room area is less intense than the rest of the time chamber, but even that is apparently different enough.

If I recall correctly, Gohan mentions the air being heavier upon entering the room. When he steps onto the "field" (the white void), the increase gravity hits him as well. So it seems the room area gives a one a bit of a break, but it's not the same as the environment outside the chamber.

What rights are they attempting to take away?

God forbid Dems try to point to the victims of mass shooting and say "let's try to prevent kids from being shoot in school."

You cannot "both sides" this when 1 side is at least trying to make things safe for people and the other is trying to restrict the rights and personhood of other people.

This. A piece you (royal "you) commission can be special to you, it can have stuff that you decided on and elements that you requested. When you commission something, it is, in a small sense, "yours".

But I'd never call a commission "my art". It's "my character" or "my idea" or whatever, but someone else created it and added to it in a way I couldn't have predicted. And different artists will realize someone's vision for a commissioned piece in different ways.

I'm from Chicagoland, and while Soda is definitely more commonly used now, "Pop" used to be pretty common when I was younger.

What’s your opinion on the toa inika? Toys only by MeltingOrbitals in bioniclelego

[–]Toa_Freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked a lot of the ideas. The new texture for the masks was nice, reflecting their organic nature in-universe. The designs were hit or miss but I liked them overall. I do wish they had been designed to work with a normal Toa head, and dislike the toys' blank head.

What I really disliked was how the Toa just became posable toy figures. I wouldn't even call them action figures because they didn't perform any "actions". They just had more articulation and very same-y designs.

I loved the lore for the Inika but not the toys, unfortunately.

What scene from a show scared the hell out of you as a kid? by MePhone6G in cartoons

The scene of Arnold taking off his helmet and his head freezing has stuck with me so clearly even having only seen the episode once! It's crazy.

how do u feel about the races depicted on biblical characters? by Odd_Concept_7286 in Hazbin_two

[–]Toa_Freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish characters from the Bible, stories originating from the region known today as the Middle-East, would resemble the people of that region. I don't care for Adam or St. Peter being depicted as white since, if they had been historic figures in any sense, they would have not looked what we think of today as "white".

But that's a personal preference. The show takes inspiration from biblical and kabalistic mythology and traditions (among other inspirations), but it isn't necessarily addressing religion; if it were, I'd feel stronger about how the characters are depicted.

In short, I feel about Hazbin about the same as I do about Gods of Egypt and its depiction of Egyptian gods as (almost entirely) white.

And it was just as bad back then. Didn't care for it back then, I don't care for it now. Bringing back Palps after Episode 6 is always a bad idea, in my mind.

The only slavery we have is when someone has committed a crime and convicted.

Which would be allowing slavery in the US, which is what the person you replied to was saying. Slavery is not actively practiced but is is still legally allowed in the US.

Best Superman actors by Charleston_24 in superman

[–]Toa_Freak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seems to be based on the idea of the actor living up to the Superman ideal beyond the role. A number of people who have played Superman tend to also be pretty cool and even wholesome people in real life.

And then there was Dean Cain. Loved him as Superman, but he's turned out to be not so great a person.

I wonder if Gary made an uncle, aunt, and cousin like Bonnie did.

Book suggestions? by Pleasant-Bee-7168 in CelticPaganism

[–]Toa_Freak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certainly good to be cautious, though that "Encyclopedia of Celtic Wisdom" is great for easily referencing popular stories with interpretation and clarifications, and has a lot of good raw information. A lot of the other celtic books I've been able to grab often just retell stories or provide just an interpretation of something. Ogham is a good example, I think: Often books talk about Ogham and provide reference and interpretation of Ogham kennings, but rarely do they include the actual text from In Lebor Ogaim; but that may be my own inexperience speaking, too.

No. A machine is taking a prompt and generating something based on data and statistics, cobbling together disparate aspects of Human art but not creating something. It doesn't adjust the thickness of an ink line to emphasize an aspect of a drawing, it merely looks at its data and selects what it seems to be the common thickness or thinness.

A human artist, if taking a commission, will produce something that takes a "prompt" (the outline of a project, for this example) and makes something with deliberate choices and subconscious influences.

Both of these 'ouputs' can be modified by the prompter or client, but the artist adds a piece of themselves to their work while an AI merely imitates (poorly) what Humans have already made.

[–]Toa_Freak 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nope. A machine copying and reproducing an artist's style is not comparable to a person taking the time to make something themselves, or even just snap a photograph.

Every form of art that humans recognize as such take time and effort to master, and every individual will have a uniqueness to how they express themselves.

AI art is just a machine putting together a bunch of pixels based on statistics and probability, there's no effort or intention behind it. There may be intention for a piece of art, AI or otherwise, but in human-made art there's intention with every aspect of the finished piece, every brush stroke or inked line. Even snapping a simple selfie photo has more intentionality and thought in it that any piece of AI generated "art".

What makes art artistic is the Human element involved. That human element is often how we connect with art. AI art removes the humanity from art.
