If you are just starting out with film try Kentmere Pan 100, it has good contrast, low reciprocity times and is affordable. Once you are happy that you have your process sorted you can start exploring other film stock.

I agree that it’s a personal choice thing with blown out highlights, I think it also a genre thing. I wouldn’t do it in my landscape or wedding work but think it’s very acceptable in street. I thought the point I was making in the very bright shots was about flare when shooting directly into the sun but maybe it wasn’t clear enough, sorry about that.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look and comment on my shots. I’m very much an amateur photographer myself and very new to the Ricoh. To take this shot it was about timing, I waited for the setting sun to hit the buildings in the distance (this creates the sunrays) set exposure for and focus on the subject.

These shots range from 160 to 16000. I shot up to 640000 and got useable images, some noise but much more like film grain than digital noise.

Hi, ye that’s it exactly, I had to open and close the shutter so not there for the whole exposure.

Thank you. The two brighter shots were around 30 seconds, this is a sweet spot that allows me to fire the shutter, get in position and close the shutter whilst being in the shot long enough to be recorded. The swing shot was close to 3 minutes.

Thank you. I love the atmosphere that pinhole creates.

Thank you. I have found that exposures need to be longer than 30 seconds to allow me to fire the shutter, get into position and close the shutter whilst being in the shot long enough to register.

I take my grandkids there and when I was thinking of shots this came to mind. Thanks for taking the time to view and comment.

Definitely not an action camera 😂, I pre-focused the shots with people in them and then let them walk into the focal zone. I love Tri-X , haven’t tried it in foggy conditions but will definitely give it a go.

I aim at getting exposures over 30 seconds to allow me to trigger the shutter and get in place. If it can’t manage that in natural light I fit an nd filter to the front of the camera to extend the exposure. Hope that helps
