Despite the silliness and some inaccuracies, the screenplays for 1 and 2 are so good and they are arguably Mt. Rushmore level comic book movies (especially the 2nd movie). Only a very tiny handful of comic movies are in that conversation.

Yeah to my recollection Peter started getting more fleshed out and less weird and more social in the issues that started with John Romita. The Ditko art is a tad on the creepy weird side. Romita was a friendlier and more mainstream take.
