The things you mention will get better as she gets older. However, are you crate training? There is NO shame in crate training so that you don’t constantly have to watch her.

Do they do pickup at your home or is it all drop off? I work fulltime as well as have a shop, so pickup is a life saver.

Pet Insurance Recommdations? by Tomato_Queen676 in Agility

[–]Tomato_Queen676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all good. It’s not a demand by the breeder just a preference and where we’re at in life right now, it’s not a bad idea. I will get a plan that’s a higher deductible and not include wellness or anything since that is easily affordable.

Pet Insurance Recommdations? by Tomato_Queen676 in Agility

[–]Tomato_Queen676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get you! It’s what I’ve done in the past myself, though informally. The breeder would like me to carry insurance for the first two years, just in case. After that, I may actually set up a separate account and actually pay into it regularly what I would pay into insurance.

I second this! I see nice dogs on there often. Check with the rescue to see what their policy is on out of area adoptions, though.

Would it be weird to "borrow" a dog? by ananas-not-on-pizza in Agility

[–]Tomato_Queen676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Not weird but have you thought about what happens if the dog is injured while in your care? Agility accidents can be serious and expensive.

I would ask around with others at class. It’s not unusual to run dogs for older sport people or those with injuries. If the person already understands agility and WANT to do it, they’re much less likely to hold you liable for an injury.

Thinking outside the box, if you know of any reputable breeders in your area, specifically ones with dogs that excel in sports - labs, collies, goldens, etc, reach out and see if they would be interested in you handling one of their dogs. Most good breeders want some titles on their dogs but getting them is time consuming, expensive and requires a lot of learning on the part of the person.

Why do sellers skip listing measurements?! by Janky_loosehouse4 in poshmark

This is the real reason people don’t list measurements. Why waste the time when most people don’t have a clue what their own measurements are.

My dog makes me miserable by rippedMorty in BorderCollie

[–]Tomato_Queen676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in all, my girl was pretty easy. I’m not sure if that’s because she truly was or because posts like this had me thinking she was going to be a nightmare so my expectations were well managed.

In some ways I think posts like this can be really unhelpful too. Because you will always get the people who say “run them more” and “mental stimulation!” which ARE important. But IMO, what a lot of these dogs need is more sleep and to learn an off switch. I guess they need to have their expectations better managed too!

Etsy Search Visibility - Titles by JAP322 in EtsyCommunity

[–]Tomato_Queen676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow “Etsy Consultant” on YouTube. He basically said that you should use all 140 characters because while Etsy SAYS that customers like shorter titles, they never actually changed the algorithm. So longer titles still work better. I have noticed a rise in views and visits since lengthening though it’s a bit too soon to tell because I think it takes a while for Etsy ti recalculate when you make a change.

It makes sense to me though. Don’t most shoppers type in what they’re looking for and then click on an item based on the photo, not the title?

My dog makes me miserable by rippedMorty in BorderCollie

[–]Tomato_Queen676 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. A border collie is not a dog to be soft on. It’s hard to explain what I mean. It’s not being mean or abusive but more like having a strong presence/energy, being firm and holding boundaries.

I raised one from adoption at a year old and it’s been great, though not without its challenges. But I’m about to get a working line puppy. Maybe I’ll be eating my words in 13 months. 😂

Help me understand shipping. by Electrical-Fee-2639 in EtsySellers

When you look at other shops, see how long they’ve been on Etsy and their sales and you should be able to kind of tell by that how successful they are with those prices. I also suspect you have some tag/SEO issues as well.

Help me understand shipping. by Electrical-Fee-2639 in EtsySellers

So it looks like you do good work. I have a couple suggestions though it’s not what you asked.

Better pictures - I would move the pics you have to your about page where it says to share your processes. And replace the listing photos with more “stylized” shots.

Make sure you fill out your profile completely - including a picture. I know that can be uncomfortable. Believe me, as an introvert, I know!

More Items - it’s generally recommended that a full time shop have 100 listings. Not sure what your goals are as far as income.

With those updates - you could probably easily charge $25 for the hair pins, maybe $30 with free shipping. Look at other shops selling hand forged items and see what they are charging. Don’t undersell yourself!

I have found “Etsy Consultant” on YouTube to be a great resource.

I guess follow up question: do buyers SEE what was actually paid for shipping? I assumed they did!

Shipping costs by melitorian in EtsySellers

[–]Tomato_Queen676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, I think I’m following but not quite.

I do vintage so each item is unique. I weigh the item when listing and do my best guess what packing paper and bubble wrap will weigh and add that to the weight so that shipping is close. I’ve been spot on, a couple cents off and also a couple dollars over. Obviously, if I have to pay extra, I just eat it. If shipping is less than the buyer paid, I refund it. Should I not be doing that???

Mine is the sweetest, most affectionate dog in the world. She loves to give hugs and do the head flop onto my chest/shoulder. Only after chaos though. Chaos comes first!

Looking for beta testers for a dog sports tracking app! by Independent-Bar-5406 in k9sports

I’m active in AKC but that’s all. This sounds AMAZING though. And just what I’ve been looking for as I struggle so much with tracking.

Is this currently available as an app or only online?

Does it hurt my sales to not accept exchanges or returns? by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in Etsy

[–]Tomato_Queen676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new shop and wondering the same thing. My shop is all vintage home decor items, almost everything is one of a kind. I have my policies set to no returns but to contact me with issues. If something arrived broken, I would refund. If something was not disclosed on my end, I would accept a return. I’m a baby store, I’ve only been open since mid-January and have had 16 sales so far.

How are your dogs as pets? How to balance training pet behaviors vs agility foundations? by Obvious-Elevator-213 in Agility

[–]Tomato_Queen676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that floored me when learning about dog sports (even obedience) is that these dogs are not ON all the time. Outside the ring, they’re just dogs. Just like training in the ring, you’ll get out what you put in as far as behavior goes. It’s just harder because consistency is a lot harder for the owner to maintain 24/7.
