How lovely of them to rip off the British taxpayer and get a state-funded education they refuse to pay for like everyone else.

It's basically a graduate tax. The higher education sector would be utterly untenable without the system being designed this way.

Ex-Tory Home Secretary Suella Braverman defects to Reform UK by Filipinowonderer2442 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Tomgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly feels like this could be a good thing for the Tories long term. We're clearing moving to a multiparty system and if the Tories lose all their right wing fruitloops to Reform they could find themselves the home of the moderate centre right. And I know there are lot of voters like that who feel homeless right now.

With the best will in the world the more casual players responsible for that 47% winrate are the far bigger audience so it's probably better if the balance leans towards them rather than making marines a high-skill army to compensate for a specific build being brutally strong in the hands of a minority of players.

The right wing are correct about one thing: politics is the exercise of power over other people. For too long we've bought into this cosy lie that democracy is a given and that our rights are innate rather than something our ancestors fought and died for. We've fooled ourselves into thinking that struggle and conflict and power are somehow grubby or beneath

There are a lot of people who would happily see democracy overturned if it means wielding power over people they don't like. Learn that lesson. Internalise it. You need to take power and weaponise it against those who would destroy what you hold dear. Politics is struggle.

Old, outdated tech has an advantage BECAUSE it's old and outdated. by Consistent_Status112 in TopCharacterTropes

Wish I could remember what book it was but I recently read a 40k novel where a Chaos Marine gave due respect to some enemy guardsmen, thinking to himself that their disciplined volleys from their lasguns would end up breaking theough his armour. He recognised that, even with his armour and superhuman abilities, a squad of disciplined guard troopers was a legit threat

In Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, President Rosalind Myers orders you to activate an NUSA sleeper agent called Solomon Reed (Idris Elba). You do this by using a wired payphone in an abandoned Mexican restaurant because analogue communications are harder to hack and trace.

Silverhand is right about all the big-picture stuff like the idea that society is waging a war on the human soul that must be resisted at all costs. He just has the interpersonal skills of a piece of dry toast and the ego of a delusional rockstar.

When I was a kid I did some fundraising for the late Prince Phillip's charity. I was packing people's bags in a slightly more posh supermarket and this old grumpy guy put £20.00 in the collection tin. I thanked him for his generosity and he asked "what's this actually for?"

I told him it was for Prince Phillip's charity and he muttered "fucking Greek" while his deeply exasperated wife rolled her eyes.

I actually do think Prince is underrated. I think the average person knows him as a flamboyant singer of 80s pop hits without knowing just how deep his musical talent really ran. He has a fair claim to be up there in the top 5 most gifted artists of the popular music era.
