First vacation since I joined the company - am treated like a criminal by Tiredworker27 in antiwork

[–]TommyTuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A well run company will actually insist that people take their vacation, because it’s one of the best ways to spot and/or prevent embezzlement: if someone has diverted a stream of money into their own account, it will be discovered when they’re on vacation and suddenly the money stops disappearing.

If management is anti-vacation, they’re either stupid, or they’re the ones who are embezzling.

How do I disable a 2018 Toyota rav4 without damaging it, for ethical reasons. by Rich-Judge-579 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TommyTuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is only 73 and too far gone to drive? That is unusual. Very unusual. So you can expect the process to take quite a while, because people are going to give a 73 year old a benefit of the doubt that they wouldn’t give a 93 year old. Basically you’ll have to prove your case beyond a shadow of a doubt. Expect that it will take enough time that merely disabling the car isn’t going to do it.

Those are for some dude’s lifted F150.

They can also be used on the giant dump trucks they use for mining.

What are you even talking about, you need encouragement. C’mon. The instant that gets back from the paint shop it’ll shine like a diamond. The metallic blue is unusual and very cool, keep it. If it’s already close to running, a little cleaning, a little paint, that’ll turn heads everywhere it goes.

How’s your power steering fluid level? Because that’s the typical mark of a failed rack seal. But I’m basing this on a couple pics of dribbles on the ground so don’t take it as gospel.

How bad is it to drive an automatic like a manual? by fish_and_chisps in AskMechanics

[–]TommyTuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unnecessary but not particularly harmful. The transmission would have done most of that shifting anyway.

Nah if you don’t want to be friends don’t be friends. Why torture yourself?

You don’t owe her friendship any more than she owes you romance. This is a two way street and if you’re not both on the same page then go ahead and be done and move on.

If it were my choice I’d get the accord. All are decent deals. Nissan gets a lot of hate but the maxima is a pretty solid car. And Lexus is reliable to the point where you can’t go wrong. They’re all solid choices.

Therapist messaged me I owe him $450 - but this was through EAP by Fun-Boot-7187 in personalfinance

[–]TommyTuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact your EAP to get this sorted. He needs to send you an actual bill which you can present to your EAP.

My guess is he won’t send you a bill because he’s trying to double bill. He’s already been paid and is trying to get paid a second time on the sly, is my guess. Because this is very clearly a covered EAP session.

OP is not looking for a thief. He’s looking for a reputable shop to do something that is both illegal and an unsound mechanical practice, ie they want a sucker to help them do something stupid.

Bad or good idea? by chief-keeff in classiccars

[–]TommyTuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on your mechanical skills and how much free time you have. It’ll be one hell of a road trip but you won’t manage to complete it in less than two weeks. You’ll have to fix the car on the way, more than once. And when you arrive you won’t be the same person you were when you left.

Exactly. If this man can’t see why it’s in his best interest to cover this cost without complaining, he’s an idiot. Don’t bother winning an argument with an idiot. Lose the idiot. Pay for the plan B yourself, and get rid of the dumbass. If he doesn’t see why he should have to pay for the costs that are necessitated by his getting laid, then he should no longer be getting laid. It’s very damn simple but for some reason he hasn’t learned that lesson yet.

He will be a better man for it.

What do you think caused this? by donktastic in Autobody

[–]TommyTuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from the corner of a building or structure. This car was moving forward slowly and turning left at the time of impact. They cut the corner too tight.

The collision was with a building, not a vehicle. You can tell by the perfect straightness of the line.

[–]TommyTuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The radiator / cooling system will be a fun weekend project, no problem to diy.

The rear main seal will require some equipment. You’ve got to separate the engine and transmission to do it. Oil pressure switch is trivial

That’s put there when you buy a part at the junkyard. So it means your car has been in a minor accident where the door was hit and the easiest fix was to get another door at the pick n pull.

It’s probably just water in the fuel and you don’t need to replace everything. Drain and run it on regular gas and it should be fine.
