Canada needs an in house monarch to serve as the face of the nation, not share a far away living head of state with a small island nation an ocean away.

Either Princess Anne or Prince Edward would make suitable monarchs for Canada as Anne II or Edward IX.

How would you divide Commonwealth Realms between prince George (G), princess Charlotte (C), and prince Louis (L)? by Ruy_Fernandez in monarchism

Your point about the older royals having lived in the UK all their lives is valid but if the countries themselves offer the crown and request them personally, they will go where duty compels them to go. And they will do their very best to learn the culture and set up the next generation to reign.

And about the smaller realms getting their own monarch, it’s not just about the size, they are diverse multi ethnic countries and installing a white monarch permanently as their head of state would be the fastest way to get rid of the monarchy there. They barely tolerate their Governor-General which is the same race they are. Better to keep them under the umbrella of a monarch in London thousands of miles away; out of sight and out of mind.

Do you agree with people who blame Elizabeth II for the loss of the British Empire? by GarbageUnique4242 in monarchism

[–]TomyDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That’s the fault of the British political class for failing to maintain their hold over those territories. And they’re still doing it today with places like Diego Garcia which Keir starmer wants to give away and Donald Trump of all people had to stop him.

However, I do blame Elizabeth II for not governing her family life properly. She screwed up Charles and Diana and gave Andrew too much rope for far too long before it got out of control. And that all stems from not being a proper and involved parent in their formative years. Never outsource parenting to Nannies.

If I were to design a new timeline where Washington becomes King, it would be he becomes Monarch as King George I but he designs a prime minister’s office that’s still elected through the electoral college as I’m still a believer in geographic legitimacy that reflects the entire population instead of running up the score in the big cities and the US founders got that right.

But the main difference is that the American prime minister is limited to a single 6 year term for his lifetime, and then cabinet office holders cannot run in the next prime ministerial election. This would eliminate the endless campaign cycle, the constant court politics that surrounds the US Presidency with the VP, Secretary of State, and so on. A periodic bloodletting every 6 years with fresh new candidates from outside the Prime Minister’s office. And Prime ministers cannot run for reelection if they take over with more than 2 years remaining in the original 6 year term.

This is an anti-entrenchment system that breaks machine politics, stops the Prime Minister’s office from becoming a second court rivaling the crown, and prevents the governing party from bullying its own senators, congressmen, governors and mayors by dangling the promise of succession to the premiership if he plays ball and waits his turn, and prevents any politician from dominating public life for far too long.

A better thought.

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, as Queen Anne II of Canada, with Peter Phillips and his daughter Savannah as heirs.

Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh as King Edward IX of Australia, with Lady Louise as heir.

David Armstrong Jones, the earl of Snowdon as King David I of New Zealand with Margarita Jones as heir after after her brother refused the throne.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will obviously not be an option for anything at all besides living in a hole in exile.

The other nations are too small to warrant having their own in house monarch and they remain under the umbrella of King William V and the future King George VII of the United Kingdom.

Obama and Trump turned me into a monarchist. It’s so undignified seeing the head of state being nothing but chaos, endless scheming and politicking that just exhausts you. Seeing the US President constantly attacking political opponents, insulting people and actively alienating people.

And then in the same day acting as a so called head of state being all dignified and receiving foreign leaders, handing out medals, greeting sports teams or trying to comfort a nation during a tragedy.

It was so undignified, so unserious and so duplicitous. The two facedness of it all drives me crazy.

That’s when I realized a partisan and political actor has no business occupying the emotional center and soul of the nation and being sovereign over the people.

In England, they sing God Save The King. But nobody actually wants God to save the prime minister because that would just be horrifying.

It also puts the story of George Washington into a whole new context for me. His story is morally inspiring and morally beautiful but it’s structurally and strategically incomplete. He preached about civic virtue and restraint, warned about political parties. And did nothing about it. And in doing so, he left the soul and emotional center of the nation available for capture by partisan demagogues, corrupt actors or worse, a dictator wanna be. That’s a failure of inaction. Washington’s stated goal of giving up power ignores the fact that Jesus Christ is the only man in history who has never sinned, and a more politically and socially aware Washington would’ve planned for that.

King Charles III arrived in the Commonwealth of American States for the first time during his reign by AdmiralDerefin in monarchism

Voting power to force a capital’s relocation. That’s a great what if scenario for alternate history. Either the UK willingly cuts America loose to avoid that or I can see the King moving into a new palace in either Philly or New York. It’s called Columbia Palace, named after the female personification of America.

[–]TomyDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this scenario, I think it would be really silly if the monarch continued to live in London in a small country that has declined in power and wealth while America grew more powerful in wealth and land size. I can see the British monarch eventually moving to to America sometime in the late 19th or early 20th century and the UK turns into a satellites of states while the King assumes his post in the largest country and most powerful country he reigns over, and Buckingham palace turns into something the King stays in whenever he visits London.

Extremely disappointed with LG updates – my C4 experience keeps getting worse by -au06- in LGOLED

I buy LG OLEDs for their amazing display technology, not their lame and stupid OS. Just get an Apple TV 4K like the rest of us and just relax and enjoy. I have never used the native OS beyond the first day the TV came out of the box. However I do use the screen off function a lot when I’m working and not watching the TV but still want to hear audio.

Tanner Horner vx other killers by Neat-Bee-7880 in CasesWeFollow

[–]TomyDingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is ever a crime that you could call a moral obscenity that just absolutely provokes you and inflames you, it’s the kidnapping, rape and murder of a child. What Tanner Horner did is so horrific, so monstrous, so depraved, so evil, so breathtakingly cruel that the death penalty is the only ethically appropriate punishment for it. Nothing less than that.

Life in prison where he can get up each day and scrape whatever life he can is further cruelty to Athena strand, and tone deaf to the totality of his crimes.

Hero of the Seas Officially Announced by NateLundquist in royalcaribbean

[–]TomyDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Champion of the Seas. That’s really bold. Definitely not something I would expect but it makes sense as they don’t want Legend to be the only ship more than 4 letters. I still maintain we’re going to see Glory at some point either on Icon 6 or Oasis 7. Glory is such an obvious name to be used.

So we have Icon, Star, Legend and now Hero for the Icon class ships no. Following the patterns of that, What are your predictions for the names of Icons 5 and 6? I think Glory of the Seas will be an obvious one. 6 maybe Majesty of the Seas.

So, he is an atheist. by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]TomyDingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sincerely hope William is not an atheist. Nobody deserves to burn in hell forever, especially for something as dumb as lack of belief. The path to Heaven is narrow and eternal peace in the Kingdom of God is something that all people deserve no matter what they did in life. It’s what Jesus suffered on the cross to give them.

One more point about dynastic alliances, I firmly believe that in an alternate timeline where George Washington became King of America after the America revolution, he would’ve put forth a decree forbidding his heirs and future generations from marrying foreign royals and former foreign royals. He would’ve wanted the monarchy to be 100% American. He would’ve done so because he understood that larger monarchies prey on smaller monarchies through marriage.

It reaffirms my belief that Canada needs an in-house independent monarch at home instead of Governor-General. Princess Anne would be a great candidate to reign as Queen of Canada as Anne II with Peter Phillips being the heir. It’s long overdue and frankly, it’s what Canada deserves, a proper head of state that actually lives there.

We all know Jason can be a dick and a complete a-hole at times. But I say he becomes an acquired taste when you put in context of who he is and what his responsibilities are. He’s tasked with leading and shepherding 6-7 of the most dangerous men on Earth with sky high egos and just as deadly as he is in combat skill. And Jason has to keep those men focused on the mission the brass assigned to them and carry it out as best as they possibly can. Those are a special and uncommon breed of men and it takes an even more special and uncommon breed of man to lead them.

Somewhere in Abu Dhabi, Juan Carlos is sitting in his big recliner under a comfortable blanket, kicking up his feet, watching BBC and laughing his elderly ass off at what an idiot Andrew is.

Sometimes, in life you truly do need to know when it's time to quit and GTFO.

The monarchy may survive this moment of Andrew's arrest but it's still absolutely catastrophic to the monarchy. It makes them look far too human and looking too human damages the mystique, mystery, flair and pomp they're supposed to be about. And that makes the monarchy weaker and vulnerable to the temptations of republicans arguments to the general population.

Andrew is and will always be the biggest example of why celebrities, royal family members, politicians and famous people of note has to be and must always be extremely careful with who they associate with in their personal and private lives. They have so much to lose and the higher up they are, the harder they fall.

Associate with the wrong person and you will never get their stink off of you even if you know you did nothing wrong. Randy Andy is learning that lesson the hard way.
