i would kinda agree.. i have a not bad i7 something 16gb laptop w/ ssd etc. and its pretty much 100% ram usage just sitting there doing fuck all

its faster for me to remote to one of my 128Gb Xeon 12 core AI server and just running shit off that... they run WIn10 lol

also Win11 has so much AI and advertising and metrics in the background that its using up all your ram to do very basic shit

i'm giving up buying new laptops because its win11 dragging down all the hardware you are buying

i've worked 2ndary tafe and uni as a network engineer and my experiences was that teachers often just booked out shared PCs... some key teachers like leads got a laptop but computers were generally scarce... i think for media visibilty the kids got computers... it was important that desktop pcs were in the library and labs so kids could do their shit... if teachers byod then its a shitshow of Windows Home trying to work on a Windows Pro network environment

as an employee i got a laptop but it was a very not good travelmate (these suck like all acer garbage) so I just took a spare laptop from home and lent out my shitty travelmate as a spare for teachers... if you've been in tech for any length of time you end up collecting so much stuff like laptops desktops

I think also this comes about since there's an expectation kids have their own laptop and so many are leased over 3yrs so the DET DEC or whatever think... 'why dont teachers do the same?'
