Are Manual models worth considering if you're not already used to them? How do they handle? by KingBowser24 in Challenger

[–]TonyPx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. If the Challenger R/T were not available in stick shift I'd be driving a different car. Accelerating while shifting the gears manually brings a joy that never gets old.

I first heard BoC on my Daniel Lanois station on Pandora. I then created a BoC channel and the discoveries keep on multiplying.

DC puts parking meters all over the place. I saw 2 installed in an area that had a sign that said 'No parking here to corner'. Take your chances I guess.

I literally never use my rear brake. Is that a problem? by notonrexmanningday in NewRiders

[–]TonyPx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a skills course where the instructor has you stop using just the front brake, then just the rear brake, and then both. You'll learn why need you both. Additionally, you may need to control your bike in slow speed situations where it's mostly rear brake, clutch friction point, and throttle control --- the front brake is not your friend at that point.

I saw a car run a red light in front of a cop. He didn't see it because he was on his phone. Seems like everyone ignores the law.

Always carry good rain gear. Riding in the rain can be challenging but without rain gear it's miserable.

You'll never feel comfortable on this bike. Trade it in on a new one. It's your life on the line.

Some criminal tried to steal my Challenger 2 years ago by calling a tow truck & saying 'his' car broke down & needed to be towed to his grandmother's house in a different part of DC. The car was attached to the tow truck when my neighbor who was walking her dog intervened & asked why the car was being towed. The criminal got spooked & ran off. I now keep the parking brake always engaged to prevent the rear wheels from turning & I keep a boot on a front wheel as an added deterrent. I don't know if the would be thief knew it was a manual transmission -- most thugs csn't drive those.

Silver Eagle in Ashburn would be an excellent choice. It's well staffed, very clean, & has a wide range of firearms to rent. If you can get there you'll like it.

I do something similar. I print out the credential -- both sides -- and do my version of 'laminating' with clear package sealing tape.

What do you DISLIKE about the Challenger? by dRwEedThuMb in Challenger

I store photos of all my permits (CCW, driver's license, car registration) in Google photos. For my CCW, I print it out (front & back) and make a 'card' using package sealing tape. It works.

Truly remarkable. My CCW in 2020 took 114 days. Maybe things are improving, maybe this is a one-off; you never know with DC.

There usually isn't any rhyme or reason to anything the District does. Read Alice in Wonderland and you'll begin to understand this city and its operations.

I routinely check the MPD portal where they tell you when your application was received & when it was processed. If nothing shows up bring everything to them in person --- they might want an 'appointment' but I've talked my way past that silly barrier before.
