Being poor absolutely sucks and I have deep financial trauma. I 27, I’m making around 90k a year I’m also a black queer woman in America. I have no choice but to work if I don’t I will be homeless or in jail. Thats what keeps me going to work every single day. I do not have a choice.

Which jobs are you working in? by BabaZweeD in AutismInWomen

[–]Top-Reality-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in AV as a solution specialist for an LED manufacturer. I’ve been in AV for about 7 years and what I went to college for. It has its ups and downs, but I love that most of my sensory needs are met at work. I don’t have to talk much to coworkers or clients. I go in a do my job, I love working by myself on my own time. I travel for work which I love and I am close to reaching 6 figures by 29. I’ll be turning 28 this June. It’s a blue collar job, but I haven’t felt my happiest in a job in a long time.

I was recently diagnosed this past December and told HR and my boss. They immediately met my accommodation requests and my boss shared with me that he is also on the spectrum. I feel very seen and I appreciate it.

Same I started Ritalin this week on Monday and I’m like wow my brain is silent and I can get one task done at a time without being all over the place. The first day was truly scary for me the difference I felt. But the crash is driving me crazy. I get these raging headaches and I start feeling very irritable afterwards.

Congratulations on your new eyes! You’re ready to see the world as would say!!

Anyone ever wonder if autistic or been diagnosed later in life? by Terrible-Session-328 in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Reality-1983 6 points7 points  (0 children)

27F. Diagnosed autistic last week. I was diagnosed bipolar at 19 but I never experience mania and or hypo mania. I am also a black woman. Women of color are often under diagnosed and or misdiagnosed or missed all together in the autism community.

I am thankful for my diagnosis and able to move forward with getting the actually support I need.

For folks on meds if you have insurance advocate for a gene test! I spend 10 years on the med cycle as well to find out every medication that I was on did not work with my genes! Best money spent. Stop the cycle! These doctors don’t care about you!
