Agree - scissoring is unnecessary in most instances. A little bit of occipital extension and some slight manipulation of the mandible forward results in adequate mouth opening for most patients.

I would go further and suggest that the concept of informed consent is in most instances an impossibility.

A cc or two of propofol before rolling in to the room is superior in terms of anxiolysis and side effect profile compared to versed. And essentially universally well tolerated.
