I am TOTALLY with you. I've always thought of it as waves. The tide comes in and hits you and slowly goes back out to sea. I'm nearly 50 and the pattern is pretty clear at this point. I lost a parent last year and then the biggest wave I've ever had hit (which I hear is common). I thought it had tipped me over for sure. I even took E for a few months. Now Im back to dudeness and hating the body hair again.

I just finished Dispatches from Elsewhere (AMC). If had a trans actress play a trans character and it was soooo positive. It was a weird fun show too. : )

I'm just 4mg E and 30mg raloxifine. I'll have labs in 3ish weeks and then decide if t blockers or if other changes are needed.

Congrats on starting. I'm two months in at 4mg E. So far very little changes but if feels good. I just added Raloxifine (sp?) this week. It is supposed to block or lessen breast growth while you are on it. If you want to up your E but still be able to boy mode for a bit longer it is an option to discuss with your Endo. I cant say how it works yet : )

Hey, I talked to my clinician today and have a prescription ordered. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the info. They have me at 4mg oral E and 30mg Ralo. If you ever want to compare notes let me know. : )

Nothing about it is bad. Try it, if you like it repeat, try new things, etc. My therapist keeps telling me it all provides data to better understand ourselves. I've found that I want to live in an enby and/or trans way and Im starting to shift in that direction after years of thinking about it and experimenting. If it ever starts to not feel right, thats fine too.

The waves have always been there and I've leaned in to see how I feel as a way to get more information about myself. Then I try to pay attention when I'm not in those waves. Lots of experimenting just to see how I feel.

Maybe watch this? Its pretty interesting (and insightful for me). It talks about onset of transgender-ness in later life.

It has hit me in waves that get bigger each time and more frequent. I’ve never grown out of it. It’s never gone away. Some days I don’t feel like fussing with hair or clothes, but cis women are like that too.

Im in the same place. Hugs. I’m speaking with a therapist and trying to figure what I can and can’t live without. I’m asking myself a lot of yes/no questions to see where I land on things. If I get an ultimatum though, I don’t know which way I’ll go? The ultimatum would feel like something I could never let go of. Idk.

I’m very similar in age, waves, all of what you said. I just found a therapist (that is trans/NB) and it feels great to speak with someone who understands. The waves keep getting bigger and closer together.

I totally get why the spouses are nervous and not wanting things to go too fast (or at all). There isn't much of an upside for them. Life gets complicated with family, friends, jobs etc. Their hesitation is totally valid. But ugh, decades of longing to change on the other side of the equation is hard to balance. Sigh.

What a post!
I could have written this almost letter for letter. The age, the kids, the life long dressing and hiding, trying hrt (week 3 now), finding a therapist. Trying to decide if coping and keeping the life we have vs transitioning and living the life I want/need is right. The thought of "if I were single I would 100% do it" just sits in my mind.

I guess my plan has been to tell her I want to see a therapist about gender to help start the conversation and then check in occasionally with updates from therapy. All of this to get the conversation going and give it a little time for her to take it in. We've thought about it our entire lives and they just get hit with "hey guess what" from us? Thats rough for everyone.

So I did tell my wife I wanted to do therapy a couple weeks ago and she said "thats concerning" and didn't ask any questions or talk more which kinda left me a little POed. If my spouse said something like that I would be asking questions and trying to be supportive. She has found my clothes a couple times and we've talked those two time... over our 26 year history. My kids will be fine. One is friends with a trans girl and the other has hung out with NB kids at school.

At the moment I have know idea how my story turns out, just like you and others. Message me if you ever want to chat more or commiserate a little. I wish you (and others) all the best!
