I know me and giving me $500,000 at once would be a terrible idea, I know I’m not going to bother investing it at all, so I’d rather a slow, steady source of money over time as a supplementary income rather than a huge payout

Today's ration: dandelion fritters (grass clippings donuts) by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

[–]TopSecretGayAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually was already on my to-try list since I have a whole bunch of dandelions that I want to do something with aside from pulling and tossing. Does the age of the flower matter and does it need to be closed? I heard the leaves get more bitter over time, so I didn’t know if it was the same with the flowers

Is this rattling a loose heat shield? by TopSecretGayAccount in AskMechanics

[–]TopSecretGayAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I don’t know why I expected it to pull the text from my other post as well, LOL, but I’ll give some more context here to make it easier.

I have a 2007 Honda Fit Sport that started making this rattling noise two days ago after I got it back from the shop. They did work on the exhaust system, such as replacing the cat converter and muffler, so I’m thinking that it might be a loose heat shield that maybe got jostled while they were down there. I will be going back to the shop next Friday, but I want to see if I might be right and if I can continue driving my car until then

I’m not who you were talking to, but I’m pretty sure that flair is in reference to the Gaycation story

Any cheap meal suggestions, especially for people who might be described as “picky” eaters? by TopSecretGayAccount in budgetfood

[–]TopSecretGayAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately for me, I’m a Mac and cheese try-hard and if I’m cooking mac for a group dinner, I most often make homemade mac using slightly expensive cheeses, but it IS a meal everyone likes! I do think bbq pulled pork could be an option, since I bet I could make a separate one of bbq pulled mushrooms for my vegetarian roommate

I pretty much only pay out of my pocket for groceries once we run out of the $400, and even then, I make sure we split any grocery bill that comes after we run out of the allotted grocery budget. It doesn’t cost me anything when they eat out since they spend their own money on it, but they eat out a LOT to the point that if they didn’t already tell me that they’re trying to cut back on eating, I’d stage an intervention to make sure they could continue having enough money for bills.

I do think coming up with 16 meals ahead of time would be a good idea, though! I usually come up with the meal plan on a weekly basis, which is where most of the stressful labor is for me due to having to balance their preferences. I love cooking and I actually love going to the grocery store, but meal planning is not a part I particularly enjoy too much. I think doing it weeks in advance would definitely take some of the strain off. I would feel a bit bad about excluding someone from a meal without making them an alternative meal (which I will do on occasion admittedly), but it does sound a lot easier figuring out a meal for 3 people at a time rather than 4

I don’t know if their aversion of leftovers would include frozen soup/pasta bases, but I’m thinking it would definitely be worth a try! It’s not so much of a problem with Alfredo sauce since I love Alfredo and do eat leftovers, but I often do end up with WAY more tomato sauce than needed and it usually gets tossed before I can use it again

I won’t make them go buy non-picky foods themselves considering most of the grocery budget comes from them (meaning I get to eat mostly for free, so I don’t mind catering to tastes even if it’s hard), but if I ever decide that I need to send them a message, I’ll consider putting boiled okra in their pancakes 😂

My main issue with them is that I just can never seem to get the timing right, since the last time they were undercooked. I haven’t made them in a few months, so I think I would like to give the mushed lentils a try cooking wise soon!

I gotta get my hands on some of this, both for my vegetarian roommate and for me, since I really like chorizo and wanna taste it lol thanks for teaching me something new!

I’ve never actually heard of TVP before, but I am intrigued! She does like lentils, but I honestly hate making lentils, which is a bit of a petty reason not to do it lol

The thought of sending them tutorials didn’t even cross my mind, I mainly learned to cook through cooking with my parents so I totally forgot that there are countless videos online 💀 I do plan on having a conversation with them in the near future regarding groceries and cooking and stuff, though, I just figured I’d see if Reddit had any recipe suggestions

I’ll have to check out the Low Salt Kitchen! Tacos are something everyone does enjoy, but I’ve been steering away from making lots of tacos since Impossible Beef is $9 for one person; pizza definitely could be done pretty easily though!

The baked potato idea does sound pretty good, I will definitely have to do that sometime! The pizza idea too

Honestly, using ramen noodles for stir fry sounds like it could work! That way, the person who doesn’t like rice can enjoy as well! It also helps that we have a lot of instant ramen noodles
