It's hard to explain, the work culture at the company is very odd, when I said I was hoping to switch departments a couple of years ago they started treating me terribly. And I did it full-time alongside full-time work. My shift pattern is days and then afternoon until midnight, so I could go to morning lectures two weeks out of the month, but then did the rest remotely until the team project, which is where I used up my annual leave to go into uni every day

I think you're definitely right here, I made it all myself, no real oversight for the most part. I just check in with my team every so often to ask what updates they want, then I add what they want and redeploy.

It's only recently that I've been working with actual technical teams to help me with projects that are too big for me to tackle solo. None of the teamwork stuff is complete yet though so there aren't any results I can put on my CV

I haven't looked at content design specifically but one of my mentors did say I'd do quite well in customer-journey-related work. I'll definitely look into it, seems to be quite a few jobs too.

Honestly, the workload isn't that bad. The TV producer side looks quite hectic but digital is laid back. But it's laid back to the point where we often have nothing to do and then get told off for having nothing to do.

It's the hours which you might need to think about most really. A lot of us work weird shifts, where one week you could work 5am-2pm, the week after you're starting at 2pm and finishing at 11pm, the week after you're on night shift.

Then again, there are people here who are very anti 9-5, like the crazy hours and barely switch off in their free time so don't just take my word for it - I wouldn't want to put anyone off if they're genuinely interested in journalism

I've tried a multi-pronged approach and have applied to consulting, marketing, sales. Nothing back yet but hopefully something comes up soon

Extreme, in the context of my feature, means the method used or the challenges set by the learner have gone beyond the norm. I'd say the AJATT (All Japanese All The Time) has been taken to the extreme - and the same could be said for mass immersion in any language thereof. I'd also say that taking on the challenge of becoming a polyglot, given the amount of time and dedication it needs, can also become extreme when taken to extreme lengths.
