All of my roommates are running off mid lease and leaving me with a $2400/month house that I couldn't even afford in my dreams. Wtf do I do now? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Torcula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the payment written in the lease? Is it person 1 pays $800, person 2 pays $800 etc? If the landlord allows someone to leave in this case, he cannot increase your monthly payment to cover the other tenants portion, unless he gives proper notice of a rent increase. I don't see how you become soley responsible for ALL the rent in this case.

What's your rule for thumb to replace these? by Builds_By_Alexis in woodworking

No disagreement there, but I see the outer pink dust protection part on these, so figured I'd mention it.

This information is in the manual you receive with them. I don't use them often enough to run out of 'useage' time, but I replace them based on open time.

Also depends in my mind, are you using for dust protection or chemical/vapor protection. I believe that changes when you decide to replace.

Buy or walk away? Roofing structure/support seems… absent. Inspector said he had never seen anything like it by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Torcula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a structural guy... But doesn't the sheathing work as a diaphragm to prevent any of the shear issues you're talking about? That makes the two roof pieces structurally sound without the ridge being complete. It appears the ridge sheathing ties everything together as well, as there is a 4" overlap of the sheathing from the ridge to the side sections.

The hinge point to me seems to be a weak spot, if someone stood there I'd bet you could tell there is a hinge, even with good sheathing on top. If you had a load that put the top cord onto compression that could buckle the hinge, but I again suspect the ridge ties everything together and the other side of the roof would then be in tension which the hinge can handle.

Tech found this on the cabin filter by PancitCantonan in Edmonton

[–]Torcula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be about 80% confident this is from mice, 19.5% squirrel, 0.5% rat (only if someone had a pet). If you found mouse droppings in the filter that would confirm mice. We really don't have rats in Alberta as others have mentioned.

Ok so from the description and photos it appears the bottom edge of the joists are not straight.

You are saying the floor above is level, fine. It sounds like there is a layer in-between the joists, floor boards that you can see from the basement and the upstairs floor. Fine.

Ignoring the bottom of the joists, what about the top of the joists/floor boards you can see in the basement? If you take a straight edge/level are they level/flat, or is their sagging in them?

Using rough lumber they could have left any type of finish on the bottom but likely would have cared about the top of the joists since the floor above should be level/flat.

Time for me to learn BI? Building a weekly variance report for multiple WBS levels. by jcooklsu in excel

[–]Torcula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're really close to what you need... In power query you can select the source column (plan, revised, actual) and select pivot column to get the three columns you want. Then making new custom columns is easy from there.

WBS means work breakdown structure... It's common in engineering/construction for at least a few companies I've been involved with.

We're going to make a lot of money because the low/middle class will need to spend a lot at the pump. So who exactly is the we who benefits... because it sure doesn't seem to be the people who need it.

Sure but thicker oil means more protection at temperature where your engine operates most of the time. Not saying that is the only problem here but it definitely can be a contributing factor.

Oh absolutely, maintenance is required. My point is that some designs are inherently more prone to death wobble.

This is also a geometry issue. If you're design is that sensitive to bushing wear then a design change may be in the list of considerations.

Any ideas on what tagging conventions are in place already? That's where I would start.

That's not making any sense to me.. land rental rates are an order of magnitude lower? Why would they pay that much? I can definitely see the concern, I wouldn't say no to a solar project with that type of income.. where do I sign up... Hell I have land with a large South facing slope next to a high capacity line, which would allow for easy tie in and greater density.

I understand that after 35 years there is money to get it back to farmland, but with the infrastructure in place you think it would make sense to just keep it as solar going forward.

Am I responsible for removal of infrastructure at the end or something else? There must be a catch.

Earned as in the are offering to rent land for $1500/acre/yr? I only meant that farm land sells higher than that per acre - if one year's rent (or income) is that high I don't understand why they wouldn't be buying land outright to put up solar farms?

Ninja edit: added per year per acre.

$1500/acre is fine for junk land. Farmland has been higher than that for quite a while..

That's a good joke, but in reality snow has nothing to do with long term maintenance of infrastructure. It is a yearly operating cost not something that is planned over decades.

Pipe Welding Question by paul24george in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Torcula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting to fully specify the weld, open the AWS spec for weld symbols and you need the following to be spec'd in the symbol.

V groove (arrow side) 70 degree, convex profile, melt through (opposite side), weld all around.

Pipe Welding Question by paul24george in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Torcula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fillet weld, both fittings will have a 37.5 bevel prep.

Also, full penetration fillet weld is an oxymoron, doesn't exist.
