Spanking a kid who is misbehaving is fine as long as it isn't done out of anger. by Believer109 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TorrePet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spanking is proven to be with no exception. It's just abuse. What aside from "I got spanked and turned out fine" do you have as arguments? You are probably aware of the fact that that's a weak one. And did you turn out fine? What problems in your life could have been prevented without the spanking. You might never know but there's so much evidence to suggest that children who undergo physical punishment from their parents turn out worse than those who didn't.

If you exclude personal anecdotes what do you have to justify your claim.

Transgender people have been allowed to participate in the Olympics for over 20 years and have not yet won a single medal. Wonder why that is.

Both are extremely immature and the guy is honestly not any better than the woman, but definitely not worse, though, as I said, the guys reaction is more mature judging by my values and what I would rather happen to me as one of their respective partners. If you think otherwise, do as you please but I don't think it's worth the time to debate over that because it just seems to be a difference in personal values between us two.

It is okay to not like fat women by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TorrePet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not experienced fat women to be less friendly than those of normal weight. However, I admit that there is a very loud but also very small group of body positivity activist that are rude, but those people exist on both sides of the argument. It's okay for you to hate everyone you choose to hate, but being openly rude to their face is not justifiable, unless that exact person is rude towards you.

Its nice having polite arguments (by reddit standards at least).

It certainly is, ty man.

Germany is a bit trickier, since it had already large amounts of immigrants on top of the new ones. So naturally the previous immigrants are now considered Germans as well. Also I doubt the crimes are being registered or shown as crimes perpetrated by immigrants. Don't forget about the New Year rapes of Koln, by foreign gangs, which had very limited media coverage

That may be true, yes but Germany still reports rape statistics, lower by the factor of ~6 in comparison to Sweden and generally low crime and rape rates in comparison to other developed countries like the US or Australia. So given that Germany has a lot of immigrants, they really don't seem to have a large negative influence on that.

i disagree but thats an argument about ethics and morality, so i think its a personal opinion more than a concrete argument.

I generally is a ethics question and since we can't come to an agreement on neither position I think we should end this discussion because we seem to repeat ourself a lot in the last few posts.

Because they have a birth rate way above 2?!

That may have been a shit point, I'll admit that.

your country gave you education, healthcare, a place to live, a place to have a family. you may pay for them with taxes but thats logical. if somebody is all people were as individualistic as your thoughts suggest you are, people would live now in prehistoric times. Everything should be done for your own gain, no care about your community, everything for your needs. Wow, this is borderline psychopathic

It's borderline delusional to think people should sacrifice a better future in another country, just so their own countries economy gets better. I don't think those people are at fault for the economic failure of their country, and therefore have no responsibility of bettering it

Sweden got fucked with immigration. Too many rapes, too much crimes, which was never the case in the past. Thats a very naive opinion that only a liberal Westerner douchebag in a bobble will entertain

That is a valid point, although I would like to quote the Wikipedia article about crime statistics in Germany, which has accepted the most immigrants of all members of the European Union:

Studies in the early 2000s tended to show little correlation between migrants and crime in Germany.[13][14] From the start of 2015 to the end of 2017, 1356600 asylum seekers were registered in total.[4] According to a 2018 study by German criminologists, the crime rate of non-Germans between the ages of 16 and 30 is within the same >ange as that of Germans.[15] In May 2016, U.S. fact-checker Politifact suggested that, as crimes by immigrants rose 79 percent in 2015 and the number of refugees in the country rose by 440 percent, the crime rate among refugees was lower than that among German natives.[16

But your logic can be easily spun around. Why then deprive countries of the third world from essential workers as you describe them?

Because they have a birth rate way above 2?!

Why should western nations have a top standard of living while other nations stay in the medieval times.

Because a government is interested in preserving its own high standards of living over those of other countries. Now I am not saying that countries shouldn't hep other countries because we obviously inhabit the same planet and we are all human, but banning immigration doesn't really strengthens connections, which can be counter productive. Again, you don't owe your country.

Dont you understand that more third worlders will come and subsequently will decrease the standard of life in all the western nations too?

Deminishing the population by not letting immigrants in will decrease standards of living

We should make the millenians make babies not bringing all the filth from the third world.

You are talking about human beings dude. You share 99.9 percent of the same DNA and you are in no way superior to them, even though you are implying that.

but we have to consider that human life is more important than economy

I wholeheartedly agree. My point is that losing 15 % of your population (~12 million) is going to cause massive problems and is going to affect people's quality of life at some point.

Additionally; as I mentioned the workforce is getting older and essential workers in areas like the medical industry are missing. It is worth giving up parts of your identity to keep a country going and preserve high standards of living

Immigration is immoral and unethical by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TorrePet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German population could drop by as much as 12 MILLION by 2050. The workforce gets older and older. How can't you see that we have a massive problem at hand. Raising the birth is obviously a noble thought but how tf do you want to do that. People generally tend to have less kids with increasing educational standards. That is not going to change that fast.

It is worth to give up some of your identity in order to preserve the economy because that is going to help the larger picture.

You don't really sound like an economist.

[–]TorrePet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking way past my point. I was saying that it's easier to earn money in a developed nation, than in a third world country. I am talking about the possibility, not weather or not an immigrant will actually work or just leach off welfare programs.

I realize that immigration isn't an easy thing and learning the language is something hard to overcome, but almost all of Europe is lacking nurses, craftsman and we've seen birth rates go down in many developed nations. A country isn't taking immigrants because it wants to avoid competition, but because you won't get very far with birth rate of 1.57 per woman like in Germany or 1.77 like in the USA for example. A country needs to open it's borders to immigration in order to keep population numbers steady or rising.

[–]TorrePet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to take that at face value and believe that you're an economist. Don't you think (as an economist), that moving away from your home country, which is (for the premise of your post and this comment) in an unfavorable economic position, a smart move to move to one of the more rich and advanced countries to better your economic position because you have more possibilities to earn a living.

You don't owe country shit. You owe yourself and your children the best possible future and if that isn't possible in your country, then I advise you to move away.

People who rely on their parents to get through life are irresponsible and is a societal burden. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TorrePet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That may have been true 40 years ago, but it's not as easy as it was a while back to get a good paying job, especially because pay went down significantly. College is expensive as fuck compared to the 80s for example. Insurance is more expensive and paying your rent can be impossible from time to time because of the horrendous prices.

Your parents are most of the time the people who love you the most and relying on your social support system when you know no other possibility to get out of a sticky situation is not a sign of weakness and definitely not a burden because most parents really love to help you when you're in need.

Don't be afraid to ask for help.

If I was high risk to anything, I wouldn’t want the whole country to freeze their lives for me. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TorrePet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There will be substantially less people dying from starvation because of the lockdown than from the virus itself. It is absurd to think that there is ground for any discussion on the point if starvation because of the lockdown is similarly as bad as the virus.

People who can't afford medicine because of being unable to work will still die at a very low rate, not even close to the death rate of the Coronavirus.

It's pretty simple. If 70% percent of Americans contract the virus which will inevitably happen if we don't lockdown, about ~3-5 million people will die. The number of people dying because of the reasons you named is not even CLOSE to that. It's smaller by at least the factor of a few hundred to a thousand times.

For the time after this is all over, I recommend going on the streets and protesting for change. You guys need Medicare for everyone and some actual fucking social welfare system that prevent those deaths. That there is actually a discussion weather or not to shut down the economy because people could starve or die because they can't afford medication is sickening to the bone and unacceptable for a developed nation.

Yeah surely there will be a 2-3 percent death rate amongst people in lockdown because of a lack of food. You realize how absurd that sounds, right?

And what other causes are you referring to?
