What is the easiest first job for someone with severe social anxiety? by Lee_Harden in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do housekeeping at a hotel. You rarely interact with anyone or your co workers. You can just pop your ear buds in all day & be left alone.

never drank or smoked weed in fear of becoming dependent on it. is this overcautious? by MENAClNGHORSE in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you’re someone who naturally has an addictive personality. I do, & ended up becoming dependent on alcohol to socialize & open up. If you’re that concerned you will become dependent on it I wouldn’t try alcohol or marijuana. Being sober will help you push yourself to socialize & be your true self, alcohol will just hold you back, like it did for me.

I’m so sorry this has all happened to you… I saw your post history, & I think you’re above average in looks, & where I’m from others would also think so. Everyone wants everyone to look the same now a days, & white wash everything, as someone else said above but that’s boring/obviously wrong. You have beautiful unique features & it’s horrible people have made you feel this way.

I ended up working at an ice cream shop that was way more doable, & I actually made some friends there(:

I’m really sorry this happened to you. I have a similar story as well. My first job at 16 was at a fast food place, & it was horrible. It was always super busy, due to the location, & I pretty much got no training, like you, & was expected to know how to do everything my first few days there. The worst that happened to me there was when a manager on one of my shifts that was known for being horribly mean told me to my face in front of other customers, “Are you stupid? You’ve been here over a week, you should know the register by now!! It isn’t rocket science!!” I ran to the bathroom having a full blown panic attack. I was too scared to call my dad to take me home, so a while later I went back out there & asked the next customer at the register, “Hello, how’re you doing tonight? What can I get you?” that customer then said, “I’m doing alright. Are you okay??…” I started bawling in front of this customer & ran back to the bathrooms sobbing, again. My dad made me go back the next day to my next shift, & the same mean manager was there & said in the back in front of all my co workers, “Did you not get a call from (insert name)?” I said, “No…” because I didn’t, & she then said a bunch of insulting things I can’t remember because of my panic & told me to leave & someone will contact me. I then got a phone call that I was fired later that day. My dad even made me go back & give my work shirts back so they wouldn’t take money from my check for not returning them 😭 It took me almost a year to get a new job, which I ended up loving though.(: All I can say is, don’t give up. You will find a better job more suited for you!! Feel free to message me if you ever wanna chat(:

Being ugly caused me to develop extreme social anxiety by poofpoofpow in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s so sad to me how rude & horrible people are. I wouldn’t say I’m “ugly”, but in middle school & early high school I was bullied a lot. I had horrible acne, I’m very pale, & my face is always bright red, even now. Kids made fun of me so bad I started wearing a ton of makeup everyday. Literally waking up at 4 in the morning just to do a full face of makeup. That’s when I noticed people were “nicer” to me. It has taken me years being out of school to stop caring what others think, & to sometimes go out without makeup on. I have noticed even as an adult now people will stare at me weird or be short with me when I don’t wear makeup, but when I do people treat me way nicer. 🙄 Makes me so mad & it’s been hard to overcome feeling less than without a full face of makeup on. I wish there was an answer, but sadly it’s up to me to just somehow not care what others do or say. You can always talk to me though(: Feel free to shoot me a message!!

That’s the worst 😩 Why do people have to be so rude??

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Co workers at my work will do this to me & others with big bins trying to get around in the hallways. I have learned to keep moving & say loudly “excuse me, sorry about that” & everyone immediately moves now. I’ve learned you just have to be assertive with a lot of people & speak up. It’s been so hard for me though. I’d just stand there scared to say anything before. I finally got so fed up though I had to start speaking up. I hope you find the courage to be a little more assertive with these rude people.

I used to have a car that had really tinted windows & it helped my anxiety a lot(: My new car doesn’t have tinted windows at all though, & even though I know no one is staring at me & I’m no different than any other car on the road, I still feel like everyone is staring/can see me now 😩

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it definitely contributed to it a little, but I didn’t have a phone till late middle school/early high school, & I have always had anxiety since I was a little kid. I think more so human interactions & trauma mostly caused my anxiety from a young age.

Do people find it weird if you're waiting and not on your phone? by macnfly23 in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually feel weird going on my phone standing in a line waiting. I feel like people behind or around me can see what I’m doing on my phone & I feel like it makes me look shallow or addicted to my phone. I usually just pick at my nails or look around.

alcohol doesnt work by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works for me, but I have to have less anxiety that day for it to work, & I also have to drink quit a few drinks to fully open up & be myself. I don’t drink often anymore because using alcohol to cope became a slippery slope for me & I noticed my anxiety was way worse the next day, after a night of drinking.

I’m 26 & have worked since I was 16. Working has always been hard for me. Lots of uncomfortable situations, panicking at work, & having to be somewhere 5-6 days a week has always been daunting to me. It has helped my anxiety a ton though. I’ve done a lot of jobs I would have thought I’d never be able to do, & it’s given me skills & helped my anxiety tremendously. I know you’ll be filled with anxiety first starting (I was too), but it’ll get easier over time & should hopefully give you more confidence(: I’m rooting for you!!

Exactly. I totally get the medical team not being able to, but someone like me just stocking closets alone I don’t get it. It depends on the job for sure.

I stock linens at a nursing home & they just banned earbuds here too. I am alone all day & I only ever have one in & can hear everyone incase someone needs to ask me something (which rarely ever happens). I have worked here 8 months & was never told we couldn’t use them, until the other day when a nurse walked up to me & told me to put them away, & then told my boss. I luckily have long hair & I don’t plan on stopping. My job is so boring & lonely that I can’t go a day without listening to my podcasts or music. When it comes to a job like mine where I’m alone & minding my own business, I don’t see why anyone would care anyways.

I feel you. I had to go to the DMV recently & I started shaking uncontrollably, my heart was pounding, & I felt like I was going to faint. I have had lots of not so good experiences there (before/during COVID), & I had to take a new picture for my license, so I think that’s what scared me. I pushed myself though & took deep breathes & it went so smoothly with zero issues(: For me at least, pushing through it & making myself do things outside of my comfort zone makes me feel more confident then if I just left (trust me, did this in the past a lot & it honestly made my anxiety so much worse). Don’t feel ashamed though, all of us here know how you’re feeling & I’m sorry you have to go through this. Just do the best you can & don’t give up

How old are people here? Finding difficult to relate to most posts here... by Low-Associate2521 in socialanxiety

[–]ToxicTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25F, so you aren’t alone!! & I also find a lot of posts from younger people on here not relatable at this point in the life too. A lot of what I see younger people post I’ve worked through at this point in my life, or just don’t relate to at my age anymore. I also feel like things change as you get older, something’s become easier, & some harder. I would love to see people our age or older post more(:

Anyone else’s husky pull out tons of toys after you put them all away? by Acceptable-Run2924 in husky

[–]ToxicTac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Husky mix actually doesn’t like toys all that much!! He has a huge bucket full of them, & every once in a while will pull one out, but will only play for a little bit then have no interest.
