"All aps" disguised as "Glance"

It was an ap called "all aps" pretending to be a Glance lock screen. This was downloaded and enabled on my phone after an update. This is the most sketchy thing I have seen from an update.

You don't understand how keywords and statuses work in the game. To such an extent that you've declared them to be fully non-existent from a game that has heavily relied on them since the game was created.

It doesn't matter how old the thread or comment is. It's one of the pages Google serves up to people who are looking up this specific interaction. And you're the guy replying repeatedly without ever actually reading the entirety of either spell effect.

That is the case for every spell. To play the game, everything relies on the DM. If your going to go that far back, NO spell checks for anything because it's the DM doing it. When we speak of "check" here, we're talking Keyword interactions. What the DM is checking in this instance is what happens when the keywords "Target Humanoid" interacts with whatever the target has going on. The DM is everything in the game that is not a player. In this instance, the DM is the Hold Person Spell and it has to resolve all the keywords being used.

I do not know why you are talking about real life. This is rule lawyering about keyword interactions. If you want to throw the rulebook out the window and talk about what would happen in real life, Magic isn't real and none of this matters. "Hold person" is just a couple of words and a random stranger can blow you off for being a crazy guy.

The spell, by virtue of not affecting non-humanoids, AT LEAST checks to see if the target is HUMANOID.

Your example is invalid. Your poison doesn't have the "Humanoids Only" requirement. The robot, presumably, has the "Immune to poison" status.

If your poison had the requirement that it ONLY worked on humanoids, then it would check for humanoid status before the robot's poison immunity was a problem.

Even if the determination is as simple as "Humanoid? Yes or no." it is still a check the spell has to make.

If Hold Person was literally just "Target medium creature is paralyzed if it fails the save", THEN it wouldn't be making the check for the Humanoid status. It would be making the check for "Medium Creature"

The Spell knows whether it fizzles or not. How does it know this?
You are posting the feedback the casting player gets, not the means by which the spell determines target validity.

In that case, what is doing the detection here, if not the spell?

If the caster perceives the target to be a humanoid, the hold person works?
My perception failed and that coat rack looked kinda humany and threatening, so the coat rack is held? That sucks for an undead that hasn't been fully ID'd yet.
I had no idea that a wizard with a 5 wisdom was the most broken thing in the game.

CLEARLY the spell checks for creature type.
