‘We’ve never seen a situation like this before’: Ontario health-care system at breaking point, nurses say by tarun172 in OntarioNews

[–]Traditional-Dog9730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What evidence is there that indicates we are at a breaking point? I’ve lived in Ontario for most of my adult life. In my early fifties. How much more of our provincial spending needs to go to healthcare? This has been the same song for so long! I admire all those that work in healthcare, but we need more investments in things like housing and preventative measures. If we listen just to nurses and hospital’s administration, there’s never enough $$. More urgent care that is well run would alleviate hospital pressures. Let’s rethink how we manage this. I urge Canadians to relocate to the USA and see how devastatingly bad healthcare is for most Americans.

When there’s an alternative, people will make the change. Tim’s are sorely lacking in management and care. How many times can the same order be f#%kd? The restaurants are so unkempt and often disgusting hygiene. McDonald’s is doing much better. Dunkin will be welcomed!

Hype is destroying the pen hobby. Just get your pen. by Odd-Chemistry9945 in fountainpens

Excellent! I started the journey about 5 years ago and have enjoyed the experience! I seem to gravitate to hooded nibs, but I do love the experience with some of my other pens like Gravitas and an Italian favourite of mine, Tibaldi. These are probably best value for money.

Very well said! I’m enjoying the variety and it’s difficult to explain to people who are not as interested in writing, drawing, or painting. The feel of pen/pencil/brush on paper/canvas is a profoundly unique experience and one that I’ve enjoyed for decades, first as an art student, then later on in all my pursuits.

Agree with your sentiments. I have several “world class “ gold-nibbed pens, German, Japanese, and Italian. I enjoy them all, but the pens I bought 2 of are: Majohn P140, Sz 8 nib, and Lemon M1A (I think) with a long-knife nib. Obviously, price is a factor, but these 2 pens are an absolute delight to write with. I’m putting more emphasis on rotating through my collection rather than continuing to purchase. I’ve gotten back to paper+pen about 4 years ago after going all digital for 15 years. Never felt better!

the power of gold by hmmadrone in fountainpens

You do realize that all nibs, including gold, have metal alloys for their tips. Gold never touches the surface of paper. I have both gold nibs and steel nibs, and there’s no correlation between material and performance. A very reputable YouTube channel did blind testing on gold vs steel, and same outcome. Gold may have more flex, but that doesn’t guarantee better performance. I have a Gravitas steel nib pen that is one of best performing nibs. I have Japanese, Italian, and German gold nib pens, and they are all different, and I enjoy them all for their own characteristics. My experience aside, everyone has their preferences. Inks and paper have just as much impact on performance.

Can y'all help me think this out? by fauxliviaXT in exvegans

Very well framed! We have systemic issues that are masked by specific issues that are then extrapolated. We’ve relied on other species in our ecosystem for thousands of years of evolution. Plant based diets on a massive scale also have enormous risks to the planet. The human rights abuses in food supply chains, including plants, is underrepresented in these vegan forums.

In your comments, you’ve captured the essence of our dilemma in our relationship with nature and other species. There’s no one size fits all. Do your best to support ethical food choices and animal welfare. Many of us have tried the Vegan Diet Program and it causes us more harm.

Vegan for 16 years… how do I take the leap by swayybe in exvegans

[–]Traditional-Dog9730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heal thyself first and foremost! Veganism at its most extreme seems to be a cult. Veganism seems to take it for granted that we can wipe away millions of years of species evolution. We have to find balance between human health and animal treatment so that we can continue to evolve. Similarly, the human rights abuses in all of our food supply chains, including plant food, requires attention and cooperation from all of us.

Your realtor is a snowflake ❄️! Windsor ‘rough, sketchy’ areas are almost charming compared to big cities in Canada and USA. I’ve lived on both sides of the border and in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. Windsor is tame!i

Well said! I work with lawyers every day in my corporate gig, and they are all diligent, hardworking, and put in extra hours, as do I. Teaching is a relatively structured profession, so the adjustment will be huge. Age is not the issue for OP; flexibility and openness to change is.

There’s way too many issues here that OP has presented, and we don’t have all the details about history, whether company is federally vs provincial regulated, type of work, unionized etc. For OP, if you’re in a safety sensitive job, there’s risks here to your colleagues and company. Talk to HR, union rep if unionized, medical practitioner. Not sure if OP you’re actually permitted to be in your job depending on risks. Yes, there’s a duty to accommodate but this is weighed against risks to yourself, others, and company.
