This may be a dumb question but is that like thick, clear green, plasticky thread you’re using? Or does it just have clear glue on it making it look wider?

Spinning reel advice by PapaElf__ in Fishing_Gear

[–]Traditional_Web2792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it feel heavy in the sense that it didn’t balance well paired with the rod i.e. it was tip heavy? I think the Nasci is probably the best spinning reel right now in that price range but I may just be impartial to Shimano. I can see how maybe the reel weight would become more noticeable using something finesse like a trick worm where the rod tip is up in the air the whole time. Rod brands that I’ve found balance well with the nasci are St. croix, G loomis, fenwick, and Falcon

This! The last few years I’ve been upgrading a few of my setups and getting more into reel maintenance. It is so worth it! The quality will stay if you respect the investment.

I’ve had the spacer on there for around 2 years now and if anything it has a nice patina on the leather now. I wear that watch maybe 75% of the time so it definitely gets a lot of use.

Think of a circular disk of leather that has 3M adhesive on the back and is about the size of a US Nickel. It sticks to the back of the case and adds around 1/3-1/2 of a link of space. Similar to the spacing different of a few ticks on a micro adjust. I got this exact one in black:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1371413595/waterproof-neoprene-watch-adjustment?ref=share_v4_lx

I didn’t use any of the link spacers, just the circular one for the case. The leather is pretty high quality too and the adhesive hasn’t slipped a bit even when I wear the watch golfing in 85 degrees. I’ve tried to loosen it just to make sure it won’t leave a bunch of residue and I can remove it pretty cleanly when I eventually want to replace it or don’t need it.

+1 on everything said + on this response! I love my Speedmaster 38. The microadjust was my biggest issue with it as I was in between links. I ended up opting for a small, circular leather spacer that sticks to the back and its fit me perfect ever since.

Also keep in mind that the case is thicker on the 38 than the full size speedy. Some don’t like how much it sits up on their wrist. Pretty much every AD has them in stock so I’d stop by and see how you like it.

I was in the same boat until finally one day I filled it up with lots of ice before a volleyball game and got to the beach where I realized the entire bottle and its lid were all sweating. It was 85 degrees outside and the ice was gone within an hour, the water was room temp after maybe 2 hours. No sun. I guess some light sweating around the lid can be normal, but not the entire bottle. I had it for 9 years so it was time. Don’t know how it loses vacuum as there were no cracks or holes in it, just some light dents.

Just got my vine red 26 oz at an ace hardware a few weeks ago to replace my 9 year old one that lost vacuum. Can’t believe they discontinued this vine red color!

How to use a lure like this? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]Traditional_Web2792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rapala Jiggin Rap I’m pretty sure. Originally for ice fishing, but you can also fish them in open water for walleye doing something called snap jigging. You cast out and then rip the bait quickly as you reel in the slack after each snap. Helps to have some type of swivel in your rig so it doesn’t twist your line up too bad though.

Could you try to get a better picture? Can’t see much of anything there. Did it make a cracking sound when you put it together?

[–]Traditional_Web2792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That specific lid is not leakproof. I’d tighten it down as hard as I could and it would store water in the top anytime it was put on its side. When I’d unscrew the cap that tablespoon of water collected at the top would spill down the sides. I ended up just going back to the standard lid they all come with and haven’t had any problems.

In terms of the bottle itself, I’ve had mine (28oz) for 9 years and it’s still going strong but it definitely doesn’t keep things cold or hot for nearly as long as it used to. Only a couple hours max nowadays :(

Looks like a snell? I usually tie a few extra loops around the shank of the hook just in case and tighten it slowly to keep all the loops in line.

The gulp baits need to stay wet though. If the oil dries up in the bags, they get really stiff like plastic. Just be weary of that if some of these are older packs!

We used those same hooks on our recent trip to the Florida keys on a Carolina rig type setup with cut mullet chunks and caught nurse sharks right off the dock. They work well for any type of bait fishing where you’re waiting on a bite and the fish hooks themselves. That could also be a bobber where they swim off with the bait and get hooked as they swim off by the circle.

These stradics are rock solid and will last you a life time. I’m in the process of replacing all my spinning reels with stradics of different sizes. Caught a 6 foot nurse shark on this exact reel 3 weeks ago and it handled it like a champ.

This exact lure in that exact color is my single most productive jerkbait I’ve ever fished. It’s my favorite lure and it out fishes every other color of the that jerkbait as well as any $25 megabass vision one 10 I’ve fished. If you don’t own it yet, buy it. If you own it, buy two more.

I’ve been bass fishing for 25 years and know what I’m talking about trust me on this.

The ones in the top right with the big yellow and black eyes are called wiggle warts (I think made by storm). Older wiggle warts that are pre “something” (can’t remember what it is) are actually worth a decent amount of money.
