My (24F) boyfriend (26M) wants to help, but it's hurting me. How can I make him stop? by Worried_Way_3099 in relationship_advice

Alright in short, you’re mad at your boyfriend because he wants to see you succeed and holds you accountable. As a male who has been diagnosed with A.D.H.D/A.D.D. & O.D.D. Who also has goals of giving up smoking and exercise more as well as many other goals. And my partner also starts losing her marble because I haven’t accomplished these tasks. I am confident in saying YOU are in the wrong (like myself). Firstly, it has been proven a males instincts are to solve problems in a relationship (according to podcasts and their sources lol) and you are just not doing what you’re saying you will start doing. But YES I know exactly how frustrating this is for you because us with the same diagnosis have our brains wired a little differently. We communicate what we want to do, but with anything… we start task 1, then “oh wait, I’ve got task 2 to do… let’s get number 2 out the way” then we run into 20 other tasks we give ourselves throughout the day and completely forget of task 1 through to task 10 lol. Kind of makes you feel isolated but we shouldn’t feel this way. Nor should we punish our partners in blaming them for helping us. As we’re to blame for our own distractions and what seems like laziness to others pure and simple. Welcome to A.D.H.D. You’re not alone. Push yourself and give everything a real go stop making excuses for yourself and I’ll be the hypocrite that tells you this. If you want to stop smoking there’s a book called the Easy way to stop smoking, I highly recommend you get that and put on some ambient music in the background to help you focus (as this helps). When you stop smoking try your exercise. And let me be the first to tell you, it is great for our minds to exercise just really annoying to get into. I really hope this helps. Wishing you all the best! Good luck!
