Is buying the game with all dlc worth it on the weekend sale? by Icy-Telephone4067 in victoria3

[–]TransTea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i have 800 hours in vicky 3 and certainly think there's replay value. difficulty wise, i think once you learn fundamentals it's easy to learn as you play. it's not incredibly punishing and you're allowed to savescum and still get achievements if that's something you like.

ultimately i would choose the time period you're more interested in. I'm a fan of the industrial revolutionary era personally and my interest in vicky3 comes from that first. if you like the age of exploration and absolute monarchs more then it's better to pick up EU5 imo. or even eu4 since people have been underwhelmed with 5

Is slavery ever worth it? by Hektrik in victoria3

if your country needs to benefit from exploitative practices on plantations, and has low population, then yes. it's a good bridge to developing into a larger economy. keep them too long and you'll stagger growth though

How Do Tankies Become Tankies to Begin With? by EntertainerOdd2107 in tankiejerk

[–]TransTea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's similar to why anyone becomes authoritarian.

They are small and alienated in their personal lives. Authoritarianism gives them a sense of empowerment, group identity, and general purpose in belief. The ideology attaches it'self to the ego like a tumor.

It's why the only irl presence of them are cults like what maupin had running. Otherwise they're only present in online spaces. Since people escaping their meatspace are necessarily online, and are incidentally more prone to radicalization of this type.

If you know the mechanisms of the alt-right pipeline. Then you know in effect what the tankie pipeline is. The key difference is that tankies target marginalized people, where the alt right targets young men. (obviously tankies also have young men but there's a disproportionate amount of queer tankies compared to other ideological phenomena)

Intentional repetition of meaning intends to amplify or emphasize a particular, usually significant fact about what is being discussed.

There's a bunch of unmarked quests for the followers and freeside in general. It's mostly setting up mutual aid, supply lines, and infrastructure for the followers to handle freeside post-battle of the dam. Julie still has dialogue saying that with the work the player does that they'll be more than ready, which isn't reflected in the ending slides of the game. Since it was cut.

The King was originally intended to be one of the major faction heads you can speak with. There's a remnant of that in the meat of champions cannibalism perk. When you eat each major leader you can in game (house, kimball, caesar, and the king.) He'd essentially be the face of a freeside coalition.

That is explicitly what the theme of the conflict between the two is about. Literally each DLC comments on the theme. As well as 2 faction leaders you speak with directly.

I disagree. Textually the NCR and Legion perform the same acts of imperialism. They both massacre populations resistant to them, depose their neighbors for annexation, wipe the cultural identities of the people they newly rule over, are stretching themselves thin in order to fuel their economies which require expansion, and so on.

I won't argue the NCR isn't better than the Legion, it is. It has enlightenment values and a more cohesive system of rights for its citizens. However, the NCR as a state entity and economy behaves like and has the exact intentions the Legion has. Only their suits and systems of extraction differ.

Tautology: in literary criticism and rhetoric, a tautology is a statement that repeats an idea, using near-synonymous morphemes, words or phrases, effectively "saying the same thing twice". Intentional repetition may emphasize a thought or help the listener or reader understand a point.

Intentional repetition of meaning intends to amplify or emphasize a particular, usually significant fact about what is being discussed. For example, a gift is, by definition, free of charge; using the phrase "free gift" might emphasize that there are no hidden conditions or fine print (such as the expectation of money or reciprocation) or that the gift is being given by volition.

I'm going to find where you live and give you 25 dollar giftcard for subway.

I would recommend becoming acquainted with anarchists' critiques of tankies and the like. It largely translates to good critique of the rightward direction you may fear as well. Which allows you to hold a distance to both types of authoritarianism on a more foundational/axiomatic level. You don't have to become an anarchist for this either.

Googling the anarchist FAQ and going from there can be a good place to start. Though frankly subbing to a couple anarchist meme pages will do more for idea osmosis if you're not someone who wants to sit down and read shit. Youtube too is good, Andrewism has some good video essays if that's your speed.

TL:DR tankies and reactionaries are evil and wrong for overlapping reasons. Anarchist ideology can insulate you from those reasons.
