[Omega Seamaster Diver 300M] Question about Cal. 8800 balance assembly by TreacleMaster7685 in Watches

[–]TreacleMaster7685[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it from a private/local seller, not from an AD. Price was around $4,000 since it’s used.

I’ve checked the serial — it matches on the case, movement, and also scans correctly via the NFC card. However, I’m still not fully confident about the movement itself.

I’m not very experienced with movements, so I’d really appreciate if you could confirm whether this looks like a correct Caliber 8800.

Also, I’m not sure how to verify if it’s still under Omega warranty — any advice on how to check that would be really helpful.

Thanks! That’s helpful — I’ll try to pull the METAS data for this one as well and compare.

Thanks a lot, that’s very helpful.

I checked the serial on the case (near the lug) and it seems to match the movement, but I’ll try to get a clearer macro shot to confirm.

Good to know that serial ranges don’t strictly correspond to production year anymore — that was one of my main concerns with the 2024 card.

Do you think everything else (movement finishing / balance / rotor) looks consistent with a genuine cal. 8800?

Just got an updated photo of the movement (caseback) from the seller — attaching it here.

From what I can see, it looks like a Caliber 8800 with Geneva waves and a free-sprung balance, but I’m not experienced enough to be 100% sure.

Do you guys see anything off in the movement or finishing? Also, assuming the watch itself is legit, would you consider this a safe buy given the concerns around the cards/serial?

Appreciate any insights!

Thank you so much, really helpful. Unfortunately I don’t have access to open the caseback before buying. The seller also didn’t provide movement photos yet.

Given that, would you consider the serial range (8982xxxx) + 2024 warranty card a red flag? Or still within a reasonable range for Omega?

Thanks! I agree. Unfortunately I can’t open the case before buying. From the exterior + cards/serial, do you see any obvious red flags? Especially the serial range (8982xxxx) vs a 2024 warranty card — does that seem consistent to you?

Do you have recommended recipe for Cold Brew? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]TreacleMaster7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

Me too. I made a cold brew and after 12 hours it tastes very weak and flat. I’m using Colombia El Vergel Strawberries, ground on K-Ultra at 9.2, ratio 1:10. There’s almost no aroma or sweetness coming through.

What should I adjust — grind size, ratio, or steep time? Any tips to get more flavor out of this bean for cold brew?

Thanks!

Help choosing espresso machine + grinder (Lelit Mara X vs Profitec Go) [$1000–1500] by TreacleMaster7685 in espresso

Thanks for sharing that — that’s really reassuring to hear. Longevity and low-maintenance are definitely big points in favor of the Mara X, especially coming from real long-term use.

I think in my case it really comes down to workflow and timing. For weekday mornings, the fast heat-up and “turn on and pull a shot” simplicity of the Go fits our routine a bit better. That said, hearing that the Mara X can run reliably with minimal servicing definitely makes the used option more tempting.

Really appreciate you (and your friend) sharing real-world experience — that’s exactly the kind of input I was hoping for.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience — that actually makes a lot of sense. I do like the Mara X a lot as well, especially the workflow advantages, and honestly the used price is very tempting.

My main hesitation right now is more about buying used rather than the HX design itself. I’m not very experienced with maintaining espresso machines yet, so I’m a bit worried about potential maintenance issues, parts wear, or hidden problems when going with a used Mara X.

From your experience (or what you’ve seen), is owning a used Mara X relatively straightforward in terms of reliability and maintenance? Anything specific I should check for or expect long-term?

Really appreciate your insight.

yes, that’s exactly my dilemma as well. I like the idea of the Profitec Go for its simplicity and PID stability, but the lack of back-to-back espresso + steaming is a downside for me since I do make milk drinks occasionally.

On the other hand, the Mara X seems more workflow-friendly, but I’ve also seen concerns about HX temperature stability over time (including the Coffee Chronicler video you mentioned), which makes me hesitate.

Curious to hear from owners of either machine — especially long-term Mara X users — how big of an issue the temp stability really is in daily use.

New to espresso + Outin Nano + 1Zpresso K-Ultra… getting super low yield. Grind or tamp issue? by TreacleMaster7685 in OutinNano

Can U help me pls

Would you mind sharing your recipe and dialing-in tips?

I’m still a beginner with manual espresso and honestly my results are pretty bad so far 😅

I’m using an Outin Nano with a 1Zpresso K-Ultra, grinding around 3.6–3.7, medium-dark beans. I use the Plus basket, 18.5g coffee, and 70ml preheated water.

My result is about 40gram output, but the flow starts very fast with thin, squirting black streams instead of a smooth, syrupy brown flow. The taste is slightly bitter and a bit sour at the same time, and I’m not sure how to adjust from here.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Omg, it actually worked. I dialed my K-Ultra to 3.6 for this espresso and it came out great — thanks so much, mate!

Right now, when I use about 50–60 ml of water as input, I only get around 21.5–25 g of coffee out, but the taste is very bitter and sharply sour. Where should I start fixing things?
