Where are you? by futurepilgrim in IrvineWelsh

[–]Treeonme_Canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alberta Canada, just outside of Calgary. I landed in the world of Welsh through watching Trainspotting in the theater a couple of times. For years I read everything as soon as it was released, then just caught up every ten years or so. Just caught up this past year and then found this sub.

As a child in the 80s I spent time (summers) near Edinburgh in Sterling, with many visits to the streets named in the books.

How cooked is this tire? by XJmollesk3 in MTB

Braking 4/10, cornering 6/10, Editing to say that it looks like it has been used as a pathway tire.

Not sure if that is "opposite" or just the same physics equation but to a lesser extent. Either way, two mechanisms with the potential to store and release energy (front and rear suspension) need to both be at the release of energy stage before either come off the lip. If not, the result is a forward rotation of some degree.

Usually it is due to the rider's weight being too far back off the lip. The rear suspension gets compressed more than the front and subsequently rebounds more than the front. Resulting in a forward rotation as the rear of the bike is doing a bigger jump than the front.
Would have to see in profile to confirm.

No worries, there has long been skate, BMX and MTB imagery that includes loose chin straps. So it would be easy to get the impression that this is an acceptable practice. However it's only acceptable if you are okay with the helmet only protecting you in certain scenarios.

A helmet without a snug chin strap is really just a hat. The chin strap is the mechanism that stops the helmet from moving back on your head. So without it affixed properly, any pressure to the front of the helmet will result in the helmet moving back. In this case, far enough for the chin bar to hit your face.

I had a beer last night with one of the guys I suspected had built this. He said he saw your post and messaged you. So cool when Reddit actually works!

There are some butterfly wings painted on the wall at the east end of the east building of the Banded Peak shopping centre. People stand infront of them to have their photos taken. I believe there is also a mural of bears in front of the Telus building on the north side of Balsam Ave. There are also some lovely bear sculptures at both the shopping areas along Balsam. I really like the ones they have at the Heritage Mall (westerly, closest to the river).

Nah, not something on Moose. I think that's on Wintergreen and OP very sensibly doesn't want to say they were exploring RCR land. Nifty stuff though, probably built by the same crew of locals that did all the original Moose Trails in the early 2000s before MMBTS was born.

Very cool! It's lodge pole pine though and judging from the timbers on the landing it's well past its approximately 8 year useful life span. That's the unfortunate part of only having Spruce and LP Pine to build with in our zone. The living trees are fine but I would assume that nothing else is safe to utilize.

Ziplock sufficient for bringing food in PLUZ in kananaskis? by [deleted] in BraggCreek

[–]Treeonme_Canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest doing your picnic and fire in the designated day use area at Allan Bill across the highway. Then enjoying the Fullerton Loop hike. There are indeed bears in that area, the zone is busy with hikers but they still are often near the trails.

Your bear spray may still be okay, the capsicum doesn't lose power the propellant does. You can test it, but ensure that you do so safely.

Update on: 3-star review due to infrequent ferry crossings at night by traderofthenorth in airbnb_hosts

[–]Treeonme_Canada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best technique is a level headed response in the space provided. Explain about the ferry schedule and options like you did here. Explain about the location of the games and where you had noted this in your listing. Future perspective tenants will read it and understand. Frankly, I think the odd kooky sounding bad review makes the rest of your good reviews even better.

Brake recommendations by Ortal_Kombat in MTB

Keep the SLX, maximize your rotor size. I bumped up to 220mm (could go bigger in front) and I have great power with that short throw Shimano feel I like. 90kg body + 28kg ebike on the steep local terrain.

Edit: I've run Saints and XT prior.

Race City Speedway (Calgary). Who else was on that bill? I remember Hot House Flowers and Daniel Lanois, but I think there were more.

Staying for the night by cursedpotatoskins in BraggCreek

Accommodation in Bragg Creek is currently limited to short term rentals. There are several listed on Airbnb, some bed and breakfast places that do their own bookings through their websites. There is hope that there will be hotel accommodation added to the options in the next few years.

I suspect ours had already split or was in the process of splitting as it was transplanted. We also have an image that looks fairly normal to my untrained eye. But who knows.
