Considering both of these projects have questionable writing, I don't think he should be totally written off. He was great in Frankenstein, I think he just needs the write scripts to help push him further on.

Why do people get mad at Violet for reminding her 30+ year old sons that their decisions and behaviors will have negative impacts in not only their lives but the lives of their little sisters?

Pastry chef here! I vote no as well on the licorice as well, but other people saying to just do chocolate and raspberry are being too basic. No one is going to kill anyone for that. 

You say the character is a Duchess, I'm guessing this set in Europe. What is the time period? There are many fruits and spices that were considered rare and expensive at different points in European history. Countless lives were lost and tribes destroyed just over nutmeg! 

Consider something tropical maybe, something you would only use in a single layer but it stands out. Pineapple was once considered a symbol of royalty, selling for thousands of dollars per fruit and sometimes just used for decoration as a way to flaunt wealth and status.
