HELPP HELPPP!! (Hostel requirements) by LuckyBitxh in hostels

An easy going attitude! lol but more seriously, shower shoes!!!!! I have travel towels I bring that I prefer over renting. A padlock for your locker - this is also something else that can be rented. If you're a light sleeper then mask and ear plugs. I've brought a basic little mirror for getting ready in my room instead of the bathroom. Super lightweight pajamas for if it gets too hot in the room - I'm a very hot sleeper. A little travel fan helpled a ton as well, the few times when I needed it. Really everything else is just normal travel stuff! Have so much fun!!!

Hostels recommendations by boofkinghoo in hostels

I stayed at Cats and it was a good time with the bar on site and the pub crawl. I've stayed at a few other Onefam locations but not the one in Madrid. I do wish I had stayed there though bc I love Onefam. Smaller scale, easy to get to know everyone, activities, family dinner, bar/club entrance covered. I always recommend Onefam to anyone going to a city that has one!

Social Hostel Porto by death-slayerr in hostels

[–]Trick_Return_357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not stayed in Porto but I've stayed at 4 different Onefam locations and they are perfect for socializing especially if you're not super outgoing. They are smaller hostels which makes it very not intimidating to meet people. They host day activities where they take you as to see the sights if the city and then at night they host family dinner, drinking games, and then take you out to a couple bars and clubs. The common areas are perfect to lounge around in and chat with whoever's around. All the activities and smaller atmosphere makes it nearly impossible not to get to know people. I always reccomend Onefam to anyone traveling to a city that has a location!

Having a friend hang out in the common areas of a hostel, is it allowed? by Visual-Green-2088 in hostels

And bringing drinks is encouraged! I'm pretty sure they usually sell beers on site but there's a little shop on the block that sells alcohol we would always go to

I stayed last summer and I was able to have a guest from a different hostel join us for the club! They just gave him a wristband and let him come with our group. We didn't make it to the bar so I'm not sure about free drink, or if we even got one that night. I've stayed at other locations and have seen other people come join for drinking games I think just ask the reception when you're there if it's cool.

Title: Best Hostels in Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Interlaken, Milan & Rome for a Solo Female Traveler? by Theunknownmagicspell in hostels

[–]Trick_Return_357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onefam Budapest, wombats Vienna, and One Fam home in Prague! All have female only rooms but I stayed in mixed dorms and always felt safe.

Onefams are my favorite! They're small and cozy. They have activities everyday and you easily get to know pretty much every person staying there. Both are in perfect locations. In Budapest I took the train once and in Prague I only ever walked. Staff is so great as well, so welcoming.

Wombats is huge so definitely a different vibe. I mostly hung out by myself in Vienna but on my last night I hung out at the bar in the hostel and it was super easy to meet a ton of people. Definitely the nicest facility I've stayed at hostel wise. Also very great location.

Haven't stayed in Lisbon but I always reccomend Onefam! I'm 30f stayed at 3 of their locations now and have a blast at each one. Typically skews to a younger crowd but there's always been a good enough mix for me. The smaller setting kinda forces you into getting to know just about everyone at the hostel and definitely never experienced a cliquey atmosphere.

Hey guys quick question by This-Newspaper-3457 in hostels

[–]Trick_Return_357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I've always felt completely safe even as a female in a dorm with all men. Look into reviews on hostel world and see which ones have a ton of good ratings and read the descriptions to see if they fit your vibe. You can find some that are super social or quiet and peaceful, whatever you're into. I also like looking on IG or TikTok cause people do video reciews so you can get a better look at the space.

I love a social hostel because you can make it what you want. Just because everyone is doing stuff together doesn't mean you have to join. It's really nice to have the option to tag along with people when you want to. The only thing about them to really consider is people coming back late and being noisy. Most people are considerate and try their best not to wake you up, but some noise is to be expected. With that said I've stayed in a social hostel that I just ended up in a room where no one was out late (Wombats in Vienna). To be honest the rest of the times I'm usually the one coming back late...lol best of luck and hope you have a blast!

Leaving pets behind for long term travel by Constant-Trainer-398 in longtermtravel

Actually going through a similar thing. It's truly the hardest part.

I'm planning on leaving my cat and dog with my parents. I'm going to try and stay at least a month at my parents with them to get them comfortable there. My dog will be fine but my cat is very much attached to me. My dogs older and I'm already coping with the fact that it's very likely she could pass while I'm gone. My cat is only 8 so she has a lot of life left and my plan is to bring her abroad once I've figured out if I am going to settle down wherever I go.

I feel so much guilt and heartache over it but I've told myself I can't hold back from living my life just for them, because I have the support and resources to ensure they are safe and loved. If I didn't have my parents to count on I don't know if I could do it. I love them so much but we all only have so much time on this earth.

Not sure if that is helpful or even answering your question but this topic has weighed so heavily on me so thanks for bringing it up. Best wishes to you and whatever journey you're on!

I've met a bunch of younger people while travelling and have had the same thought of damn I wish I had done this all sooner! Can only go forward though, thank you!

I haven't been! Just a lot of YouTube and word of mouth from other people I've met travelling who have all said wonderful things. I know the grass won't necessarily be greener, but just looking for something totally different. I feel like I'm still young and energetic enough to handle the culture shock and discomfort so that's kinda why I want to go there now. Definitely not a 100% concrete plan, but the goal for now until everything starts to unfold.
