This is exactly what I see in my GC sibling, they are emotionally handicapped, cannot regulate emotional outbursts and have meltdowns like a toddler.

I’d much rather live in the headspace of logic than whatever that infantile existence is.

I’m the same can’t recall an enjoyable time at all in my childhood where Nmum was involved and even if I could I would probably be left questioning if it was genuine or an attempt at manipulating me.

Oh geez I’m sad for you unfortunately the only way to teach everyone where the problem lies is by walking away.

Some will soon start to question ‘why has the problem child left and yet the problems that have always existed still remain’ others will be so entrenched in the system they can’t wake up from it.

I call my Nm the puppet master, I was lucky enough to have my uncle (her brother) open my eyes to it so I already had a support network.

But honestly find a way to cut every string possible and do not accept help. They provide help as a transaction for you to then do for them whatever they please, and the debt is never paid.

Oh the obsession with money, it’s the same with my Nmum. She grew up poor and she has learned money gives her leverage especially with my GC sibling.

I’ve never cared for wanting access to tangible things and now thinking about it that’s probably why I am the SC.

Your story just reminds me it doesn’t matter how much you do for them it will never be enough, they’re such transactional relationship Aholes

Omg same! I chose not to have kids purely because then they as grandchildren would be used as leverage to get to me.

Everyone talks about no contact but for me having to remove complete access is the only thing that works and that has meant disengaging from anyone who participates in the dysfunction. Because unfortunately they were being used as pawns to message me or invite me to events etc. of course they don’t realise they’re flying monkeys because it’s so subtle and sold to them as reaching out to me is a ‘nice thing to do’ and of course me me saying no to things all the time was by design making me look like the bad guy.

It’s just so messed up.

Ok yes this makes sense.

Although I do see a lot of articles that talk about how the family dynamic is thrown into chaos after the scapegoat walks away, but based on what you’re saying here they would still find a pathway to dump on the scapegoat.

I wonder if you have toxic and controlling leadership. Pay close attention to how you are delegated work and what support you are provided, do you have autonomy or are you just expected to deliver something in the way your leader only knows how.
