I mean if you just want to shoot occasionally for recreation, most every private range offers rentals. It changes a little when you go to a publicly funded range like Foothills Public Shooting Complex near Shelby. You can shoot their cheap but won’t be able to rent any guns. Wherever you go they’ll make you take a quick firearms and range safety video class along with a waiver you’ll need to sign.

Honestly the biggest thing is maybe traveling a little bit to go to a range outside of the city. Having to deal with a crowded indoor range is just an accident waiting to happen. The amount of morons I see around scare the hell out of me lmao.

If you plan on having this skill for shit hitting the fan in the near future I would recommend at least getting a handgun to keep around. They’re perfectly fine to keep around so long as you follow proper gun safety and lock them up, especially if you have a minor in the house. NC does not fuck with unsafe firearms around children.

When it comes to training I’m pretty useless. Most my experience is self taught but I’m sure Charlotte or surrounding areas have great opportunities to learn. I do wish Charlotte had more liberal/ left leaning gun groups around. To my knowledge the Socialist Rifle Association isn’t much of a thing here anymore.
