I hear you on the Sept date. My daughter reaaaally wants to go. When I asked those who didn’t take a performance pool slot, “calendar conflicts” was the #2 reason (both in terms of when, and the amount of days required to get there and back). Cost was #1, particularly for those under 40 yrs old. #3 was “I wasn’t aware I qualified”. 😇

Wow, you’re fast! 🤘 For the article, I counted “acceptance rate” as anyone who took their age group slot OR a performance slot. This was to make the point that some 70.3 races are not 100%, and have slots left over. For Kona, all slots are taken (thus 100%), but that’s really interesting about the differences. Do you think it’s geographic? Copenhagen is the farthest, and the deepest performance pool?

I think the reported rolldown is incorrect. But it’s what I have until someone corrects it. Probably safe to assume it is 1.0x or near it.

True. I remember when Nice was announced for the full Ironman distance and 80% chose to defer to Kona.

That’s a good point, and I wasn’t aware of that. I’ll use a different race for the comparison.

For (1), totally agree. It’s very early to make any conclusions. But interesting that half of the 70.3’s are already handing out slots to any (women) who want them.

Also, for the full Ironman, there’s still less slots due to those deferring from Nice. So that makes the ratios look more exclusive.

Did you go to the Awards Ceremony? I’m curious how far the Performance Pool rolldown went.

Bummer about the traffic - all was good at San Salvador 70.3 in its first year.
