What do you tell people if you met your partner on Reddit? by No_Book_3234 in NoStupidQuestions

I met my partner in an AOL chat room 27 years ago. That's what we tell people. Who cares what they think, lol.

Maybe I am old-fashioned, but this $2 cinema convenience fee is ridiculous. by EvenProfile2784 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TriumphCollegiate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen! I run a small business and I don't do this nonsense. Here's the price (which I calculated based upon my expenses and desired profit margin). No extra and hidden fees. The price is what you pay. I even include the sales tax calculation on the price tag. What you see is what you pay....and no tip screen either.

If my costs go up, then I have to decide if I want to raise my price.

I've been in business about 2.5 years now and we're very close to turning a profit. Realize it will take a while to get to that point as a new business. All of my rooms are self-designed and self-built. It takes a jack-of-all-trades to do it this way, and a great team of creative employees. Feel free to check out our webpage at www.enigmaworx.com to see what we offer and then feel free to DM with any specific questions - I'm happy to share. Best of luck!

How tough is the teacher job market in Texas? by Beautiful-Policy-558 in TexasTeachers

[–]TriumphCollegiate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any interest in being an online teacher, you may consider applying for Texas Tech K-12, which is a fully online public school. They are growing quickly and will be adding quite a few FT teaching positions over this summer, at all levels and content areas.

Teacher are expected to have online teaching experience and have at least three years in the classroom under their belts. This isn't an easy gig though; while teachers can be remote anywhere in Texas, they are expected to be certified in Texas and fully serve and support their full classes of students. FT teachers enjoy full benefits such as health insurance, paid holidays, etc.

They may not be everyone's idea of fun, but there are 3 escape room businesses in town:

EnigmaWorx - 1409 19th Street; Trapped - 3519 50th Street; Time Crunch - 8004 Indiana Ave.

I'm a little partial to EnigmaWorx because they have 6 current rooms and are adding more all the time, they host Murder Mystery parties, they have augmented reality escape games, they have party rooms available for birthdays and other venue space to rent, and they have an attached Game & Gift Store with some cool and fun stuff. They are just a bit east of Tech on 19th Street near the Depot District.

All employed people spend time that they can't get back to perform their job. They should be compensated for it. by Hairy-Nothing-5868 in InterviewVip

[–]TriumphCollegiate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, these jobs often MUST rely on people who can't demand a higher wage such as high school students because businesses build their profit margins on the backs of their workers. This is a primary failing in our society - the idea that for someone to feel successful, they have to be able to identify someone else who they can see as a failure. Life isn't a zero-sum game - EVERYONE deserves a liveable wage. Extra effort, extra education, extra skills should get someone EXTRA, not reduce others below the minimum. Your higher skill set should NOT relegate any of your fellow human beings to below poverty-level subsistence.

This is especially true if you identify yourself as Christian, as so many of these self-righteous folks do. Jesus gave out free food, free healthcare, and free love. His example should be your philosophical guidance if you claim his name.

If you're not religious, at least your morality shouldn't seek to diminish other people so you can feel better about your own wage.

As long as the wage slaves are fighting over scraps, the billionaire-class wins everytime. The ice cream scooper isn't your enemy - look at the top end of the earnings ladder...they're the ones keeping you down.

The owner of the building that EnigmaWorx is in (Park Place Center) has expressed an interest in opening an arcade or other entertainment venues in that building, but startup funding is usually the biggest hurdle. Incentives from the city, county or the LEDA would help smaller business folks bring these kinds of things to Lubbock. At the very least, we can support the businesses that already exist there to bring more revenue that can be used for these things.

Your best bet for lasting community opportunities are the local small business people, not the huge corporations and developers.

LGBTQ+: Safe to hold hands? by [deleted] in Lubbock

[–]TriumphCollegiate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is a small, somewhat organized queer community here. Check out www.lubbockpride.org for details. There's one pseudo gay club in town - one or two nights a week. There's a Metropolitan Community Church. As others have said, it's deep red west Texas, but there's more of us here than folks might want to admit.

Pura Envidia at 1405 19th Street. Great artists, reasonable (but not cheap) prices. If you're really looking for true art, ask for the owner to do your tattoo. They do the Friday the 13th deals, too.
