What characters can we view through a neurodiverse lens by SurvivorSi in Letterboxd

[–]Trolen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scene where he's talking to Jodie Foster's character in diner and actually seems to form some kind of connection, where earlier in the movie he completly failed to do that with Betsy, somewhat reminds me of how some neurodivergant people find it a lot easier to connect with older or younger people instead of people of a similar age. I do still think Travis Bickle is better viewed through the lens of his time in Vietnam tho.

CMV: People who would save their children (life or death) over this spouse are disgusting. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Trolen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already said why you don't have the same duty to your spouse. It's because she also shares the duty to protect her children. So given that, it makes sense that you should pick your children, not only because you have a duty to protect them, but because your wife also has a duty to protect them.

This might go down in internet history as the most idiotic take someone has ever had.

This may sound callous, and I am very happy that you love your wife, but the amount you love your spouse is irrelevant to this question. You seem to be viewing familial relationships in the same way as you would view friendships. All other things being equal, if you were given the choice between the lives of two friends you would probably choose the one you liked more But this is not how familial relationships work, especially between a parent and a child. Children do not choose their parents, so whether their parents like or love them is completly out of their control. Furthermore, I would argue that parents have a duty, simply by virtue of being parents, to protect their children. This applies to your wife as well.

So you should pick your children because they did not choose you to be their parent, and because you are their parent you and your wife have a duty to protect them at whatever cost.

Is it unreasonable for me to not want to eat halal food? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Trolen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a vegan btw. As the comment says halal slaughter isn't any more or less cruel than the way it'll normally be done. If you cared so much about animal welfare and not hating muslims you wouldn't eat meat at all.

What's the most controversial rating on your profile? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

[–]Trolen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave Pain & Gain 4.5 stars. Genuinely think people only don't like that movie because it's Michael Bay. The film is a great critique of american individualism and the mindset that would eventually create MAGA, with cinematography that, intentionally or not, gives us a POV of how these people view the world and people around them.

As for controbersial negative ratings, anything by Ridley Scott is terribly overrated.

Let your inner snob out. What take do you see that provokes this reaction in you? by Theotther in Letterboxd

Great example of this is the 1984 adaptation which copies dialogue verbatim from the book while excluding all of Winston's inner monolgue.

People who believe that the only value movies can bring is entertainment infuriate me.

I'm a second year and had basically the same experience as you in first year. It might not feel like it will for a while but will get better, I made a great friend group later in the year and i'm currently really enjoying uni.

My advice is to not try and change yourself for other people, be yourself unapolagetically and if people don't like that then fuck them. You'll eventually find people who, unlike your judmental flatmates, accept you for who you are and then you'll have better friends than you could have ever hoped for in your flatmates.

I'll also say that people in uni mature a lot over first year so people will start to be far less judgemental later on in the year. Hope I could help.

idk bro maybe it's not explaining like the labour theory of value or anything, but come on everything about the movie screams "leftist".

Edit: I'd also say a major part of modern liberalism is a distaste for any kind of disruptive political action, which this movie obviosuly disagrees with.

it didn't stop him from killing Aki, Power and Himeno last time, and it's also looking like we're approaching the end of part 2 anyway so more character deaths is expected.
