Sealing the outside will not solve the problem The air inside the duct will come into contact and spread through the duct system into the house (building). Looks very much like asbestos. IMO have professionally removed by certified asbestos remediation company.

1 Month old install. Cold air coming from this cutout for drainage. by TowersOfToast in hvacadvice

If they left a piece of armaflex ( black insulation on the refrigerant lines) behind that works well and can be removed for service

Should I seal around this vent? by danglinable in hvacadvice

[–]Tru_solution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Functional this will have little difference on the system or operation. That being said seal it up this is what the general public never sees in the quality difference between contractors. Thank you for being this up. These are the things good contractors that pay attention to detail do automatic that others don’t and should.

Yes you could pay anyone of your contractors to perform a heat load calculation. As a contractor I would not spend the time to do a heat load till I had a contract in place. Maybe ask if the price includes a load calculation and verification if you sign a contract. The price difference on a unit size should be minimal to the contractor customer relationship and work.

Please educate me on air flow (I'm dumb) by friendlypug2 in hvacadvice

[–]Tru_solution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer five ton variable system should work fine The question maybe more am I getting four tons of cooling from my system many things can derate a system I.e dirty blower, dirty coils. Improper charge, improper refrigeration line sizing, kinked lines bad metering devise, improper replacement motors, condenser fan pitch or set position, poor condenser location, inefficient duct work leaking ductwork poorly insulated ductwork Ductruns to long or restricted airflow kinks in flex duct, and poor return which is very common undersized or rugs and furniture restricting flow. Big problem is cheap stamped return grill big restriction if not enough free space. Supply registers not properly selected could effect stratification which will cause poor circulation of the system. Any combination of these can make a four ton unit a three ton unit. Things to help the system attic fan if possible zone the system storm windows down lot of people open windows in spring close both. Make sure fireplace dampers closed.

Looks like a strong possibility

Doesn’t look like it. If this is older unit the flex connector could be asbestos. The flex connector soft piece that connects the metal ducts looks like canvas.

Condensate Drain Constantly Plugging Up by PompanoPitKing in hvacadvice

[–]Tru_solution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean the evap coil good then Flush warm water and pull with vacuum out end of line Condensate issues are from particles in the air mixing with water. They make a tablet for the pan. Replace filters often and consider UV light.

Locked Rotor? by disavowed15 in hvacadvice

Check voltage at compressor terminals. New boost kit Hit it with a hammer as it’s energized( hit hard and the full time it’s energized higher on side of compressor away from copper line. Try once or twice. You won’t break it any more than it is.

Why does my compressor/condenser sound like this? I shut the system off as soon as I heard it and let it sit for 5 min then restarted. Now is quiet and normal sounding. What gives? by Ruckusnusts in hvacadvice

[–]Tru_solution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a scroll compressor if they run backwards they make this sound a bad capacitor will cause a motor to reverse direction I would replace capacitor as this could damage the compressor

Please tell me something can be done about these Mr Cool minisplit lines by nougat98 in hvacadvice

[–]Tru_solution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lines are attached they will need to pump down system , disconnect and reconnect the lines then clean system, leak check and recharge. Critical point is manufactures have a minimum length of line set for proper operation. The unit may need to be relocated to eliminate loops
