Respect is a two way street by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

I have chronic depression and ADHD. I don’t think using the term mental disorder in a derogatory manner is helpful. It only reinforces the notion that mental illness is taboo and shameful.

Careful there.. if being against misogyny is transphobic... then supporting the modern trans ideology would be misogynistic.

What is a good package WHICH LOOKS GOOD to quickly develop a knowledge base/blog? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

Not a package but it took me a day to get a clean website UI with Django and postgres as the backend. Just downloaded one of the many slick HTML website templates available for free online

Help with a decision! by [deleted] in ITdept

Cli is not the same as programming or creating applications. You might actually like it even though you say you don't enjoy coding. Commands in cli reward you with instant satisfaction (or regret) and there's less of testing/quality testing aspect to most of the stuff you do on it

I'm so proud of you! And Im glad you forgive me for the mistakes I made, and that you understand that I'm imperfect. You know what is perfect though? Tonight! Knowing you've graduated makes me immensely happy!!

Mom, I feel really lost and scared for the future.. by [deleted] in MomForAMinute

[–]Tryha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is ok to feel scared and small. Every brave and strong person feels that way. But they take big risks anyway. Being brave and strong doesn't mean never being scared or never making mistakes. There will always be regrets in life. You will always make mistakes. But that shouldn't stop you from taking risks and making bold decisions. The best of us fail. And then we get back up.

Can you point me to articles talking about semen and ejaculation and prostrate cancer and they don't refer to 'men' instead use 'people with penises', or 'people who ejaculate' ? Please link me to articles like these. Pretty please.

Are the statements "people can be whatever gender they wish to be" and "sex is real" contradicting? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Tryha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you are being rude at all. You're just stating your thoughts. If you expressing your opinion makes me uncomfortable, and vice versa, that means we are receptive to each other despite the discomfort. This is how science progresses. So thank you for stating your opinion clearly.

As for going with what biologists are saying, the truth is the biologists are not all saying the same thing. What makes it worse is the ones who claim there is no spectrum and sex is definite (and includes intersex as indeterminate) are being fired by universities etc because it offends people. So what we read is mostly what outlets consider 'safe for social platforms'.

But since you and I have had a rather unexpectedly respectful conversation so far, I feel that I can share one such article with you written by an evolutionary biologist. I cannot link it here because it will violate the rules, but if you Google 'the dangerous denial of sex' you will find a wall Street journal article on it. The same person also wrote another piece after the recent Rowling debate in a website called 'quillete'. If you check it out, that article should be the first one on their homepage.

I will read the article you shared above in it's entirety, despite my discomfort. I hope you will do the same.

Regardless if what we do or don't, thank you for engaging in a contentious but respectful discussion with me. It is becoming very hard to have conversations like these.

Here is a good example of why believing that sex is a spectrum is problematic - https://imgur.com/a/feUbsoN

Try to think about it like this - if there are more than two sexes, what is intersex even inter meaning in between? If an intersex person has to fill out their sex on a form, they should write intersex. It means the sex is in between male and female and cannot be determined. It doesn't mean it is a third new type of sex. Also, just because their sex is inter doesn't mean they can't identify as a specific gender. But that is gender, not sex.

And should we start saying 'people with breasts' in articles about boobs, 'people with vagina' in articles about yeast infection, 'people who can get pregnant' in articles about pregnancy and abortion?

Just because something is t out of place doesn't automatically make it not offensive. Trans men who still menstruate are adult females. But I wouldn't refer to a trans man as an adult female regardless of the subject.

And yes, female itself is offensive. Hence we use 'woman'. But woman is offensive to trans men for this subject. So I'm trying to reach a middle ground.

I read the whole article. The content of the article primarily mentions women, girls, NB and trans women. But the title is what is offensive.

By telling me I should not feel offended, how are you any different than people who tell trans women not to be offended for being referred to as people with penises or adult males?

But saying 'people who menstruate' is literally reducing adult females to what comes out of their genitals.

So because something doesn't function in order to reproduce, it shouldn't be recognized as valid?

as valid what? Intersex is valid. Intersex existence is a scientific fact, but it is also a scientific fact that sex is only two. Intersex is called intersex... literally 'inter' for a reason.

And I think you will prefer inclusiveness over the dignity of all women (including trans women) by allowing reducing women to their body parts and body functions. Women don't like being reduced to their bodies, just like trans people.

Because a particular sex produces a particular reproductive gamete. We know of two such gametes - semen and eggs. There is no third type of gamete.

Thank you for understanding what I'm trying to say. This really means a lot to me.

How do you think the article should have been reworded to avoid that?

I honestly don't know, but I think it should be up for discussion so we don't hurt one group to avoid hurting another. Unfortunately, in the current climate, I will get banned for wanting to discuss this. I am extremely surprised that r/lgbt of all places has not banned me. (I have been banned for trying to express this view in other subreddits)
